I just ordered the last parts for my first gaming rig.

>GTX 1060 3GB
>i5-7400
>8GB DDR4 RAM

The whole thing only set me back ~$700. Is there anything I'd have trouble running at max settings?
>>
Crysis
>>
>>381379126
Didn't Crysis 1 come out 10 years ago? Is it still a benchmark title?
>>
If you're playing at 1080 you should have no problem maxing most optimized games out
>>
>>381379053
Have fun dealing with gpu memory shortage, I hope you are gaming below 1080p.
>>
>>381379339
My friend showed me a 3GB in action vs. the 6GB (he owns a tech repair shop). The difference was only like 5 frames. Didn't seem worth the extra dough.
>>
Why not Ryzen 1500x? It's a much better choice and it's in the same price range
>>
>>381379053
>i5 7400

You will regret buying a locked i5.

>>381379621
Probably because
>ew amd
>>
>>381379263
Nah. It's a stupid way nowadays to test the PC by brute force alone cuz the game isn't optimized at all to take advantage of multithreading optimaly

Honestly i don't know what good games are there to benchmark. Maybe Rise of the Tomb Raider and Hitman?
>>
>>8GB DDR4 RAM

HAHA seriously? What do you plan on playing with your 8 gig of ram in 2017?
Also i5- seriously? Don't do it.
>>
>>381379053
That's more than enough for every current and future game.

The fags on here will try to convince you that you need to spend $3000 more because they did.
>>
>>381379053
>700
Jelly as fuck, 900 euros wouldn't bring me close to that in Serbia
>>
>>381379621
My friend told me there were some optimization problems with certain games running on Ryzen hardware. He said it'd be smarter to wait until they've released a few driver updates and that Intel is the smarter first-time builder's choice.

>>381379751
I appreciate the feedback, but you seem a bit pessimistic. Maybe I'll agree with you once I get it up and running.

>>381379970
I know I keep alluding to my friend, but he cut me a break on the parts and helped me decide on the monitor. For anybody considering PC gaming, I'd recommend getting a friend with experience to show you the ropes your first time through. It really makes the experience much more smooth.
>>
>>381379552
>Didn't seem worth the extra dough.
You can easily fill the 3GB in any modern AAA title by setting the textures to very high.

Rise of the Tomb Raider uses over 4GB with very high textures
RE7 needs more than 4GB on very high
Mirror's Edge Catalyst can use over 5GB
Mankind Devided uses well over 4GB if you have textures in ultra or very high. I don't know if high is possible with just 3GB
R6: Siege uses a little over 4GB with the ultra texture pack

The reason I'm talking solely about textures is because that's what fills the VRAM the most when you start using high resolution textures. For instance, Siege maxed out with very high textures uses around 3GB of total vram, I think less than that if i recall correctly, but set it to ultra and it jumps to a little over 4GB
>>
>>381379053
Plenty of games you won't be able to run on max with that card. I'm talking ones that are already out too. Though alot of games tend to have shitty optimisation so it's not so much the cards fault on some games.

Also max these days usually includes 4k.
>>
>>381380275
What would happen if I ran a setting without the adequate supply of VRAM? Is there anything I can tack on to upgrade the amount without a new GPU?
>>
>>381379053
is this bait?
>>
>3GB VRAM
>2017

You fucking idiot
Should have got a 1070 or at least 6gb 1060
>>
>>381380437
Stuttering. Whenever the game needs to lead something new it stops for split seconds to clean the VRAM and load the new stuff. You'd be suffering from random stuttering all over the place
>>
>>381380178
>but you seem a bit pessimistic

Just giving it you straight. A locked i5 will age worse than an unlocked one. It'll be fine for now, but sometime down the road you will want to upgrade, perferably to an unlocked i7 because it'll last you a long time.
>>
>>381380514
1070 is a bit too expensive for that budget but indeed the 6GB 1060 is a very good card that will still last many years in 1080p
>>
6gb 1060 is the ultimate budget nVidia card, should have just dropped the extra dosh
>>
>>381379552
GPu Ram in mostly just there for better resolutions and higher resolution textures.

Ultra HD textures that use more than 3 GB of ram are specifically made for 4k you can barely even notice the difference between 4k and regular high textures at 1080p.
>>
>>381379053
Anon, if you can return the card later or simply cancel the order now I strongly recommend spending a little more and going with the 6GB version. 3GB really isn't a lot for 1080p gaming on modern games
>>
>>381379552
Your friend does not know shit about how it actually works then.

Plenty of games use over 3G of Vram and you don't just drop 5 frames when you try to go over your max.

This coming from an actual IT engineer and not just a pc repair guy.

Just a lesson everyone should learn. Don't trust someone's knowledge just because they work in that area. The owner of the business I work for has been doing IT engineering for 20+ years and still does not know why you should not use your HDD space as RAM.
>>
>>381380890
How long would you say it would be able to run most modern titles at 1080p medium to high settings? I'm willing to just sit on it for now and take a larger technical leap in a few years when it makes financial sense.
>>
how reliable is logical increments?
>>
>>381381256
It's mostly just the textures to be honest. Set them to medium (or high if you can) and try maxing everything else

Take a look at GPU-Z to see how much VRAM is being used

With the new higher end versions of consoles coming out (xbonex and 4 pro) It's likely we will see the maximum level of graphics rise as devs feel more confident to push knowing they can rely on sales of their games on these new consoles.
>>
>>381381253
Xbox X is gonna make more games use more than 3GB's

Sure you can drop the texture resolution, but whats the point of PC gaming if you don't get those sharp textures
>>
>>381379552
overwatch won't go over 3GB, but almost any other game made after 2015 will.

>tfw you ended up with outdated hardware at a high price because you're a retard
My next build will be better. ;_;
>>
>>381381256
honestly, no memes? a couple years. you'll have to push to low textures at least from that point onwards
overall quality will still be the same as today because games look better and better as time goes on
>>
>>381381952
Well if Op plans on upgrading once he has the cash then he should be fine. If it's a get it up and running build he was looking for then it will do. And if he needs a pc for other pc related stuff (work, editing, email etc) and he does not already have one then it's probably the best option.

But if he does already have a device he can use for general things like that then he should probably look at a console over a Pc.

This coming from someone who would usually tell people to avoid consoles like the plague.
>>
>>381382364

8/10, You could have picked better ram and a better video card. Other than that its pretty good.
>>
As an owner of the 1060 3gb, for most games you'll be fine on ultra but in newer and high end titles lower the textures to medium. its far from awful the people here are just memeing.
>>
>>381382364
bait but i'll bite
>asrock motherboard
no
>ddr4

you could *DEFINITELY* improve there. ryzen loves higher frequency memory. you can get up to 20 extra frames per second on memory frequency alone
>seasonic psu
not a great brand.
that aside, you're okay

Do you need a 1700, because if not this build should do you good.
>>
>>381383481
I was getting the 1700 because I do video editing for my friends Let's Play channel and I heard that the 1700 was better for that, but to steer away from the 1700x since you can just overclock the 1700 to get the same performance
>>
>>381383702
for video rendering I mean
>>
>3 gb 1060
Rip
>>
>>381383702
Oh well, if you aren't doing any serious video editing. The 1600 should be fine, you can actually overclock it to 3.8ghz on the stock cooler if you want.
>>
>>381383851
thanks for the info buddy
>>
>>381383792
The 1600 is fine for video rendering.
>>
>>381383058
yeah this is better anon
my pickle with seasonic is because i've lost 2 psus from them
>>

>>
>>381384012
I was actually thinking of pulling out the 750watt Rosewill Hive out of my current PC but like I was worried bc I've had this PC for like 3 years and I'm afraid of it dying the second I move it to another PC

Popular ~$800 build without the limitations in OP's potato VRAM and CPU.

I've been thinking about buy a new monitor, since all I've got right now is a 21" 1080p 60hz one, any recommendations?

Depends on the game and whether or not you think max settings is worth it.

rate my new build

PSU is from current build and so are HDDs and hybrid drive. Might get a SSD, but need recommendations. And I'm shooting for a 1070 in the $400 to $500 range

>>
>>381379053
Pretty embarrassing. That i5 is completely defunct at this point, and that 1060 is gimped on VRAM. 8GB is pretty low on RAM (BF1 will stutter) and I'll be you didn't even get an SSD.

Should have gone for R5 1500X or 1600 and RX 570 4GB or GTX 1060 6GB. AM4 has a way better upgrade path, although hopefully you can get an i7 8700 (or whatever the next i7 is called) for a decent price.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/pcbg/saved/yzYrHx
It's an 800USD build. Obviously some things like case are a matter of user taste

>Is there anything I'd have trouble running at max settings
If you mean Ultra @ 60FPS locked, plenty. But at High you're mostly fine.

>>381380178
>Intel is the smarter first-time builder's choice.
Bad advice. He might have been talking about Rise of the Tomb Raider, but that's been patched now and Ryzen runs better than a price point comparable Intel chip

>>381381509
Not very, at this point

>>381381256
Until games quit being release for standard XB1/PS4

>>381382364
Eh, get 3000/3200MHz RAM that you know is compatible with the mobo
Buy a 1440p >144Hz monitor or drop to a 1060 6GB
>>
>>381386131
Depends on your graphics card. No reason to upgrade unless you get a second, used 23" or 24" 1080p monitor
>>
>>381379053
>i5

haha enjoy only getting 60 fps at 720p
