to be fair, Overwatch isn't the only game, show, movie, anime, comic, whatever medium you enjoy that does this kinda shit. Media is full of lighthearted characters like this thrown into what are, in reality, grim situations. Also, to be fair, nearly every single Overwatch character quips like this during matches and that IS their real personality, even if the team style gameplay isn't canon.

That being said, Overwatch having the canon it does is still the dumbest fucking thing to me. Like, I think LoL and DotA were stupid for having no lore whatsoever and because all of the characters clashed with each other but Overwatch takes it to the opposite end of the spectrum and tries to tell this grand story that is completely removed from the game itself. That kinda shit is just as bad. I don't even need there to be particularly complex lore. Just a backstory for each character and maybe some bits about how they're connected to each other (if at all) and then one little blurb about how it's all just a big friendly competition. But no, there's bad guys and good guys and morally ambiguous guys and a war and characters are supposed to be on completely separate teams from one another due to goals and motives and the maps are supposed to be parts of actual missions BUT HERE WE HAVE MERCY WORKING ON THE SAME SIDE AS TWO ROADHOGS AND A REAPER TO TO STOP AN EMP TERRORIST DEVICE FROM WIPING OUT A COLONY OF FRIENDLY OMNICS HEADED UP BY REINHARDT, ZENYATTA, MEI, AND LUCIO.

If you spend your IRL skill points in certain ways, you learn procedures which can impact human lives. This is why firefighters, EMTs etc. can function in emergencies, because they do what they were taught and then have emotional breakdowns later when lives are no longer at stake. Similarly if you were trained well then you would be concentrating on the actual task so you wouldn't perceive the horribleness of war or whatever in that actual moment. So actually the subset of /k/ that actually shoots guns would be fine in the short term.

Really only depends if they train in a specific way though. With rare exception, and even when you get through all the bravado, humans are naturally disinclined with killing each-other and it gets harder and harder the closer the violence gets with being face to face. IIRC it wasn't until around NAM that modern militarys developed training regimes that got the majority of their infantry to actually shoot enemies and not just generally at them.

The other side of that perspective is that she is an international and cultural Korean Icon. Where you see a psychopath others could reasonably see it as a national moral booster, watching a celebrated national hero defend their country from the omnics. If you want to go autistic realism in your depiction of her psyche, you also have to take into consideration she isn't a random merc, but a Korean Servicemember so most if not all of that stuff is likely nationally sanctioned.
