Screen temp varies. There's no quality control whatsoever with the N3DS XL.

The RPG Maker FES Player comes out tomorrow. If nothing else, you'll get to play a bunch of passion projects (broken games from complete amateurs) so that's a nice feature. Reviewers have stated that it doesn't seem to connect to Japanese servers, which is fucking bullshit, but hopefully that changes with its public release. Anyway, it's free. Pic related: I'm actually a shill.

Other free shit looking into are Poke'mon Picross. A legit decent Picross game that works as an excellent introduction to those who've never played Picross before. Kirby Clash Deluxe is an awesome boss rush Kirby game that begs for online co-op but doesn't offer it. There is offline co-op if you have friends with a 3DS. Both of these games have freemium cancer but they can be perfectly enjoyed as long as you have patience. I've been playing Poke'mon Picross for a little over a year and I'm finally about to 100%, and I never spent any money on it. Kirby Clash Deluxe is a much, much shorter experience to beat all the bosses.

Avoid Badge Arcade. It's the most cancerous thing on the system. The fucking thing is a scam and even playing it for free pisses me off to no end. It just makes me feel bad for people who spent money on it. It's nearly as bad as those DLC crates from shit like Team Fortress 2 or Rocket League.

Yup. The actual creation program is $40 but if you just want to play what other people have made then that's free. Keep in mind something that one of the reviewers mentioned: there are no testing requirements for uploading games. In other words, it might be common to download a game with several maps, characters, and so on that might seem like a complete game but you'll soon find that you can't even leave the starting area because the creator never made a trigger to allow you to leave. God forbid that this happens halfway through another game, making all that progress pointless since you can't simply download an update to fix those issues; you'd have to download whatever new version is released and start over. There's going to be a rating system, which should help a lot, but there's definitely going to be quite a few annoyances. Anyone who's played Little Big Planet knows exactly what I'm talking about.

It took me about a month to get to and beat the True Final Battle without spending any money but I didn't realize how broken Mage was at first.

Basically just don't use apples for anything but mage gear and stay in T2 or T3 gear for it until Drawcia gear, which rips the game apart. From there you can easily plat every area up to the Decisive Battlefield and since platting an area gives 50 apples, you'll have enough for the True Final Battle by the end with some to spare if you're been diligently completing missions.
