Yes, but the keywords aren't the root of this problem. You can create game without generated content and have the same problem, as seen by open-world games and most MMOs.

The mix / mash of created and generated content this system also allows, is great way to balance out some rough corners in generation (as in generating worlds that don't feel "interactive" enough). But like I said, no AAA or 3D game ever has got the random generated world to level of rogue likes where the environment actually matters, so each play is actually different.

There are also other small things in .hack related to the fields. Like you could literally own a field and customize it if you had big guild.

They can set events and quests in specific areas, and you also have the Lost Grounds. Personally I'd just create a full world and scatter gates around, how could would it be to actually travel The World, going from Mac Anu to Fort Ouph on foot or steam bike or grunty.

the english wikis about fragment were wrong saying that it was a rehash of imoq. from what we've roughly translated fragment has a plot that fits in with canon. It takes place after legend of the twilight. Data bugs have started reappearing. Balmung mentions that no one knows where Aura has gone. Everyone is trying to find Kite and get him to log back on. Mia is acting strange and has gifted data drain to some randoms. Rena and Shugo can join you. There are some new monsters including The One Sin. The plot continues in online mode but we're still trying to figure out how the event flags are properly triggered.

Where did I say G.U was recieved better? They even said in the developer interview that I just posted that IMOQ was more successful. However, for some reason you seem to have completely disregarded the reasons I listed for that being the case. IMOQ worked because it had a huge push for release, Sign worked as amazing marketing material for it and it was a rare time in which a developer would try and go global with their product in that way. It also came with Liminality which basically provided another side to the whole thing.

G.U didn't have nearly as much stuff leading up to it. Sure there was Roots, but Roots was bundled in such a weird way and while it was effectively still a prequel, it was clear that major parts of it were not actually supposed to be viewed until later on (hence the episode bundle being so odd).

The complaints for IMOQ were mainly combat-related, but the times were much more forgiving about it back then because it was still a "new" concept. Action combat with menu-driven gameplay that requires you to pause constantly would never have been acceptable now, which in turn would require a full rehaul of the system if they were to remaster it. Since it'd be a new thing, there's no guarantee of it being successful. G.U on the other hand has combat which still at the very least remains functional by modern standards, requiring tweaks to make the game speed more tolerable.

G.U is more accessible in the modern age to newcomers due to its standard type of story, it's literally described as a hot-blooded shounen story. Posting Metacritic scores out of context without looking at the material surrounding it for something like .hack is just dumb and reeks of confirmation bias rather than any actual thought behind your argument. I love IMOQ, but the reasoning that they gave were pretty clearly solid. Unless you want to act like the landscape of gaming is the same now as it was when IMOQ was released, which is just silly.
