Abusing a bug in the game might as well be cheating too.
It's like somebody who does a triathlon, skips half the events and calls it a new record.

Speedruns used to be a complete game with the core missions finished.
Now it's
>he watch me glitch through this room and land at the final boss entrance

Just to tell you in case you're serious, you do realise that there's such a thing as glitchless runs, right?

I second this, we do need more

Not that guy, but whats the point of anything that isn't a glitchless run? Why should I care for some cunt who found bugs in the game and abused them?
>>
>>381325594
Because a run with glitches is often more difficult, resulting in a greater show of mastery

Let me guess, you think people who wavedash in Melee are cheaters too, right?

hey fuck you I was gonna post that

Mastery of what? Abusing programming loopholes? Sure. But I wanted to see a demonstration of masterful gameplay.
>>
>>381325594
It's the separation between "Finishing the game as fast as actually possible" and "Finishing the game as fast as possible the way the devs intended". There's different skill sets required for each one and they both have their own appeal to watch.

Gee OP, that's a good question. Let me wind up some serious discussion, uhh...
>>
>>381325594
Many people like seeing how far they can humanly abuse a games quirks to finish it as fast as possible. Much like how TAS is popular because people like seeing the extremes to which they can abuse a game even beyond human limitations.

>Why should I care?
There is no "should" here. Care if you want to. Don't care if you don't want to. This is why different categories exist.

>>381325897
>>381325848
For the sake of arguing - whats the principal difference between using glitches, and using in-game cheat codes? Both were programmed in, both were not meant to be used.
>>
>>381325804
Yes, programming loopholes that can require extremely strict timing and knowledge. Usually they're more difficult than anything in the game
>>
>>381325356

>>
>>381326156
Cheatcodes are usually programmed in for playtesting purposes, and left for struggling casuals, so yeah, you're not meant to use them for fairness purposes
>>
>>381326238
but hopping on a fucking barrel to clip out of a room is fine :)))))))

>watch me buy and sell these items to trigger a glitch in the programming

>>
>>381326002
Glitches are an unintentional element of all games that, in glitch speedruns, are abused through normal gameplay mechanics.

Included cheat codes like in GTA are purposefully included by the developers in some games and actively acknowledged by the devs and fans as being illegitimate advantages. Additionally, they can often trivialize aspects of gameplay.
>>
>>381326329

>Additionally, they can often trivialize aspects of gameplay.

Just like glitching past the entire game.
>>
>>381326168
1. Pokemon ACE takes like 3 minutes, not 2 hours
2. Then don't watch it, other people find it interesting

I actually found it incredibly interesting the first time I watched it. Obviously I won't watch it more than once, and since it's not even a fun run to perform, almost no one does.

So what the fuck is the problem?

>>381326002
>>381326316
They both make the run faster, but using glitches usually makes the game harder. In the spirit of creating a run that's fun to watch and do, they use glitches and not cheats. Glitches are really fucking fun to pull off. Believe it or not, 99% of speedruns are done because they're fun to do.

If the game considers it a 100% then it's a 100% regardless of how much they skipped.
>>
>>381326680
No shit, buddy. My point still stands; /v/ has an extremely ignorant understanding of what "glitches" are, and seems to think all of them involve clicking a few menu options and wrong warping to the credits, when in reality, abusing flaws in programming to move at a much faster pace can be way more exciting to watch than just moving through the game the same way a normal player would, just at a moderately faster speed.

Chrono Trigger doesn't keep track of percentage. Wouldn't that category have to have arbitrary definitions?
>>
>>381326746
100% completion doesn't mean they do everything in the game the exact way the developers intended (that would be called glitchless). For Chrono Trigger in particular it boils down to "get all the shit from the end-game sidequests, then beat the game". You sound like you just wanted to watch a walkthrough, but at 2x speed.

>>381327262
I don't think you understand what the point I'm trying to make is.
>>
>>381327069

>arbitrary definitions

That's literally what they did at the start of the run. "We're skipping huge chunks of the game but we're calling it 100% anyway because we say so, now for seven hours of "le demon chocobo" jokes".
>>
>>381327069
100% runs often have something that makes them count, for Chrono Trigger it seems to be clearing every quest that makes the run count as 100%.
>>
>>381327357

Making the point of "watching people glitch through the entire game is totally awesome" with a video of no such thing occurring is not how points work.

>>381327492

>>
>>381325390
>>381325440

>>
>>381324973
youtube keeps shilling this fucking video to me for over a fucking week

speedrunning is already autistic but people who'd try to cheat at autist activities to try in fit in with spergs are a special kind of pathetic but so are these speedrunning police

the whole community is a degenerate mistake
>>
>>381327069
No shit, all speedrunning categories are arbitrary. The community makes them up.
>>
>>381327759
If it really buggers your bumhole that much, grab your favorite game and choice of recording software, play through it without using whatever you deem as an exploit, and upload the 10 hour long video as a new category. Maybe call it Let'sPlay%.
>>
>>381327759
So read the goddamn category description.

>>381327759
Wasn't there a 'glitchless' speed run, where the speedrunner just fucking use a exploit that pushs his racer vehicle back across the starting line, which count as passing laps and pretty much automatically finishes the race?

no it wasn't

They had to time every jump perfectly and transition from segment to segment perfectly
That shit takes ridiculous amounts of skill and dedication

What's the longest a cheater got away with it at a game that isn't so obscure they're the only ones to run it?
