They've been fucking with the RNG in the boxes, locking about the only content they consistently fucking add behind them, and doing the most evasive shit they can to get around gambling laws. They also pretended to listen to complaints for five minutes and promptly ignored it all.

And after all that, they then did this shit.

>People had a problem with the amount of Legendaries and their duplicates from Day 1 of the event? Let's not say anything about it and add an item with none of the content people are complaining about that still gets duplicates.

I'm a faggot that buys loot boxes. I just treat them like scratch off cards, if I feel the itch I'll plunk down $10 or $20 during an event. I went full retard during the latest one and I'm not proud of it but either way my rampant whale-ness is not something new, it was a big problem back when I played TF2 too. I'm just glad I'm not doing it to myself in rocket league as well.

>>381298259
You're guaranteed one legendary skin and no dupes
>>
>>381298196
No, they literally did. Granted, China sucks and they're the only nation relevant for that, but they were forced to sell credits in China due to their gambling regulations.

Basic Epic skin is 250, 750 for events, Legendary is 1000, 3000 for events.
They're selling credits in bundles of 5, 10, etc., with a "Free Gift" of lootboxes with the credits. How sweet of Blizzard!

They way they're dragging their fucking feet on that, dealing with the credit/lootbox system, and every single event belies their intentions. It's funny to me how many people found a real similar controversy over the same fucking thing last year totally justified, but now people are iffy on it when they push the damn envelope again and get caught.

I never thought I'd see the day people defended microtransactions in a paid, full, AAA game.

As in it's one thing when it's $40 for a game and they're all attainable with a little play, and it's different when they're locking it behind time without consistent access to the ingame currency way of getting things. It was worst with the Summer shit, obviously, but still.

oh, I don't play the game, but the way you worded it made me think they raised the prices or grind or something to that effect.

Why do people even play online games still? They are the true cancer of the gaming industry, moreso than preorder gimmicks. Toxic communities, hackers/exploiters always, something always unbalanced, cash grab cosmetic shit or unlockables that takes away focus from the gameplay and targets people's urges for collecting.

Single player games and old school couch co-op are the only two ways to play video games. Online gaming was fun in the late 90s - 2008ish, but has since turned into complete and utter trash.

>>381300570
>>kids knowing how to put in billing information for online transactions
It's not like it's complicated, the instructions are right there.
>>
>>381300391
Well, they raised the prices of the ingame items. That's really the problem.

To rephrase; it's one thing when you get 1/5th the value of a duplicate item, the items are relatively cheap, and those items are always available to purchase or have drop. It's another when they add so much of it and classify it so highly that you get 1/15th the value of a duplicate item, they are 3x the cost of the normal items, and you have a 3 week window to get them or they're gone, presumably, forever. The only way to generate enough currency or "chance" consistently to get them all is buying into the microtransactions. And as stated in >>381298578, when they're forced to just sell you the currency to opt out of the RNG, they do it really begrudgingly and passive-aggressively. THAT'S the problem.
>>
>>381300496
Yeah, that'd entirely fix it, actually.

Shit, I'd almost be fine if they did the HotS thing and had epic crates, or the crate quality was decided on drop. The items are already pre-set, allegedly, so I'd rather know it'll be a shit crate rather than a good one and get my hopes up.

the problem with this business model is that 99% of customers could not spend a dime and it can still be successful.

There are people who have more money than time to spend it that will happily buy into this system. there are mentally ill people who will fucking hate themselves until they get a complete set of skins or, god forbid, "100% overwatch". these people can justify the lottery style lootboxes alone, but theres plenty of others who will buy.

Children, who dont have a proper understanding of value, will spend money on this shit only to be disappointed. so they keep throwing money at it to justify the previous money wasted on it. theyll feel the sting of gambling before anyone knows theyre exposed to it. spending allowance and their parents money on the same game instead of many different things. this is common in shit like fifa too.

Lets ignore all that shit though. Lets talk about normies. Most normies wont buy any. some will, thinking about firefighter mei or whatever. theyll buy several boxes and not get what they want. most of these people will stop. some will continue, throw more money. they wont get what they want. most of those guys will stop now. some wont. this is partially due to overwatchs boxes also being a progression system. the amount of time between free boxes gets exponentially loonger the longer you play. so it makes enough sense to supplement with buying boxes. then you start to think boxes are the goal of the game instead of playing the game. you start hearing these people say "i could spend 5 dollars instead of hours of my time getting boxes". theyve now outed themselves being tricked.

This system makes more money as is than if every customer could buy their favorite skin outright. it punishes the people who arent fully developed, it punishes people who most enjoy the game and its elements, and it punishes the majority playerbase by hiding their favorite aesthetics behind lottery tickets.

the worst thing about it is though, is that blizzard gets thanked for these lootboxes. because they said "these lootboxes fund the FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE updates which are FREE and full of FREE value!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

this is a lie, by the way. blizzard can absolutely continue to make dlc, free or otherwise. overwatch sold like fucking hotcakes. and the FREEEE dlc isnt that fucking special. But lets say they couldnt make it off of the massive profits. they could make it off of an evolve-esque skin shop. (when evolve has a better business model than yours you fucked up). But, the intention blizzard had when saying this took effect. players said

"hmm...i do like free dlc...and its free because other people buy lots of lootboxes...."

".....GOD BLESS LOOTBOXES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

this system is brilliant, but it makes me sick. fuck actibliz and fuck overwatch
>>
>>381304157
The skins people are getting pissed about actually change voice lines and first person perspective and the like a lot sometimes, so there's something. And you see your body quite a lot when you die or emote I guess. And they do put you on the main menu sometimes.

Really, it does come up more here than most first person games.

Fucking absolutely, 10000%, 10/10. The FREEEEEEE bullshit is grating. They've made like literally a billion dollars already and 90% of what they produce is the aesthetic skin shit locked behind events and lootboxes. A year out and they've added all of three full maps and three full characters to the game. It's clear where their priorities are, and especially with the recent issues in China it's even clearer what their intentions are with the system.

>Fuck actibliz
And this is the fucking thing I don't get at all. At all. It's strange enough to see /v/ calling autism and defending microtransactions, but from them it's even crazier. Didn't say I'm dumb enough to buy into micro trans or pre-order bullshit; I'm stating that no one with a functioning brain is not aware that they exist to continue to soak money out of the myriad of people who WILL buy it. Put yourself into the developers shoes: Is there any reason to NOT have pre-order bonuses and bundles when you release a game? When a market exists and you do not take advantage of it, you aren't taking some sort of moral-capitalist high road, you're just allowing someone else to take their money.

Are you that ignorant to how the world works? Try to find a price break-down for designer fashion. Try to get someone at a car dealership to justify the cost of "optional extras." Any time consumers have choices (in food, clothing, entertainment, etc.) they create the market by deciding where their money goes; Companies merely cater to them. It is not the other way around. There are no "poor poor consumers" who are being forced to pre-order, or make microtransactions. There are only willing participants, non-participants, and indignant imbeciles like you who get upset at the open market.

Because their games are fucking garbage and/or old and they bank on making all their money through idiots buying and selling shit like glove skins.

Valve system is even more jewish then blizzard's because they bank on people trading the same item multiple times and upwards of hundreds of dollars for an item that took 10 minutes to make. At least the Blizzard money milker stops after you buy the crate and doesn't keep going until someone decides to keep the item forever.

>everybody wants skins to be a special snowflake
I always found this pretty ridiculous in games that aren't RPGs.

Like when you have 1-3 special skins available for your character on top of the normal ones, you'll still look the exact same as at least 25% of the people playing your class, putting aside how popular each individual skin is in comparison with the rest. Chances are there's that one skin you find cool and want to use, but it just happens to be the skin everyone else finds cool too and in the end you have 40% people using the default skin, 40% people using the cool skin you like too, and 20% people using the other meh tier ones.

Such individuality.

Just play RPGs or some shit where you design your character's looks from the get-go, on top of wearing whatever. It's a fucking FPS not like you'll see your character anyway.

At the end of the day, it's not really about whether you see your own character, but rather, that other people see your character.

I don't personally care much which outfit they see my character dressed in. There's not that many options out there, and given how they're acquired, it really doesn't matter to me. In games where outfits are locked behind some achievements (or just in-game grinds with no achievements, you get the point) and things that require some effort or skill, maybe. When it's just about how much money you spent on boxes, wow, who cares.

Now, custom models actually feel a lot more important to me personally. If you make your own model altogether, no one's going to have the same one. It'll actually be unique. And you can make whatever the hell you want as long as you have some 3D modeling skills. Or, alternatively, you can just do that in-game if the game has a char creation system.

It's because Blizzard thinks the MOBA approach to content development will work in a shooter with no mechanics.
Say what you will about League and Dota, but there's actually tech in those games that you need to practice if you want to play competitively.

The second you read a character's abilities in Overwatch, you know exactly how to play them.
The ONLY complexity that exists in the game is the way certain characters interact with certain maps, places Genji/Hanzo can climb, places Pharah can hover, etc.

And yet they don't give a single shit about map design, THE lifeblood of any shooter.
Because they think waifufags will keep their game alive for new skins and the occasional mediocre hero they can masturbate to.

>hey jeff how do we make this new map balanced?
>ehhhhhhh just put a really fucked up chokepoint right at the start so nobody has to see the rest of the map ever

Tell me again how you think the game has no MOBA inspirations whatsoever even though you'd have to deny reality.

No, it's not a MOBA and it doesn't play like one, but it fucking obviously derives from them, especially in the way content is produced.
New heroes are released more often and hyped WAY more than new maps, because that's what MOBAs do.

I'll never understand people who get mad at lootbox style microtransactions for cosmetics, they're just fucking hats. You can easily get them for free and you can use the coins to buy the specific stuff you want instead of leaving it to chance. I'd understand if people were mad because the stuff in the boxes gave better stats or something, but instead people are just getting mad because they haven't gotten their favorite hat yet

I can't speak for others or for certain, but I think it was more about how little people actually got for the event.

Me, personally, I got nearly every fucking icon for the event. One for each hero, a shit ton of sprays and I think.. 3? Skins. One of which I got multiple times and thats with me playing ass tons.

Now I'm not mad, cause like you said, I just bought the shit I wanted. But I can see why people would be angry when they overinflated the event with a lot of crap people wouldn't want even if you paid them.

It's sort of what like the other guy said. They literally added more "Legendaries" than ever before, lowered the drop rate for them, and if you aren't privy to the events they can't be bought anymore. At all. They're done, that's it, and if your drops were shit, tough luck kid. The only way to get the ingame currency was duplicates, which were frustrating as fuck because the highest tier duplicate was literally 1/15th the cost of the high items. It was practically impossible to get it all without playing excessively and not buying a single crate within the last year.

And as has been said, it's also because it accounts for the majority of the content they've put out since launch, so yeah.
>>
Jeff Kaplan said he acknowledged the feedback about crates.

This is his answer.
Plus he has proven himself to be a passive aggressive cunt to players on the forums. He's probably one of the WORST head-devs out there.
>>
>>381313484
Yeah, shame. He used to be Tigole Bitties or whatever. He could do well, but this looks real bad. He acknowledged the feedback, and this is what happens after.

They're burning what little goodwill the game built for me off right fucking quick.

Who fucking cares, it's just shitty skins that are even more worthless than TF2/CSGO/Dota2 items since you can't trade them

I don't give a fuck anymore, I just want to get this off my chest.

I work crazy hours and OW is my only form of relaxation: it's easy to start up, quick games, minimal time investment.

However, it's gotten to the point where every loss I have feels like a punch in the guts. Every victory, which is becoming increasingly rare, I feel on top of the world.

It feels like those stupid numbers now reflect my worth. I mean, what else do I do with my life? Work a job and play OW. If I'm not good at something I spend this much time on, how does that reflect on me as a person? Low numbers = low self worth.

Oh, I try to break the cycle - quit after 2 losses, go for a walk, go back to practice in QP, but it doesnt work.

I invest time in practicing, I play, I lose, I feel emotionally devastated and depressed. I try to lighten up. Never tilt (verbally), try to crack jokes with my team mates when they get salty, try to cheer everyone up. I'm the first to see "We've got it next time!" or "It's all good, we can hold it.". Doesn't matter; I see those numbers drop and I want to stab myself.

I don't know how this happened. Shit, I'm not even a gamer. I guess when I decided to actually practice and watch tutorials and read threads here I expected to get better. When that didn't happen, I tried harder. But it still didn't happen. I guess it feels like being a fat slob, going to the gym everyday, eating right, but when you get back on those scales you've gotten heavier.

I'm ready to fucking give up. As soon as I hit 500, I'm out. Since theres only really this in my life, maybe totally. If I can't get out of the lowest 6% in a stupid fucking video game I've invested so much into, then what am I going to even achieve with the real world?

>>381317193

Play a real game instead? If you were a "gamer" you should know of the forced 50\50 of the game, the fact that you are nerfed when you are in win streak (less damage, take more damage etc... you can check it on youtube) and is just a game of picking and counterpicking so if someone screw it you are condamned to lose. Why the hell you keep playing something that is so stressful?
>>
>>381310958
I go Young Master for Hanzo.
I now have 4 legendary skins for him.
I do not play Hanzo.
Life is pain.
>>
>>381317193
>I lose, I feel emotionally devastated and depressed
You see loss as a character flaw and a personal failure rather than as just another experience to learn from. Also you can't really call trying to git gud 'relaxation'. If you have a very stressful, time consuming job and then come home for some relaxing... competitive gaming, then you're never getting a chance to relax.

You got all the skins for a champ you didnt play. Is incredible but is just like the system in game gives you good stuff only for the character you dont play.
Really makes you think hm?
>>
>>381317725
But i also got multiple skins for characters i do play. I think I have at least 2 legendary skins for every character i do play.

I know people like to throw arround the idea that Blizz is monitoring play time and only giving you shit you don't want, but i don't think even they are that jewish. Taking the amount of heroes and legendary skins, chances are you'll get one you don't care for regardless, so why would they bother.
>>
>>381317947
>Blizz is monitoring play time
But they do that, in every game. Whenever you are doing something good for too much time (win streaks, get good stuff from boxes) something intervene and you got blocked.
If you like this suit yourself but is like running with a stone tied to your legs.
>>
>>381317193
If you're looking for a game to base your self-worth on, and I'm not saying it's a bad option, I would probably avoid the team-based shooter where you are only responsible for 1/6th of the outcome. You can't control your wins/losses in a game like overwatch at all, dude.
