Why does this game feels like such a JUSTed low budget indie game?.

I mean, the change in direction from RE4 to this is simply brutal, it really feels like a poor man's RE4, like they didn't even try, like they treat the fucking glorious "end" of their franchise as some shitty spin off.

>Remove merchant NPC, replace it with a shop tab at the fucking MENU after beating a level for no reason
>Still use an outdated "can't aim and move" control scheme even after other games had already evolved the genre
>make linear levels with linear progression and sudden changes in scenario
>add random bullet sponge bosses at every fucking turn
>a meme co op partner
>design a mandatory boss fight to pretty much only be possible with a human teammate
>don't bother to make a competent friendly AI for your mandatory AI partner whos death can make you fail the game
>remove the tight inventory management
>Almost no extra content
>completely remove gore from the game


I still can't believe this was supposed to be a sequel to RE4 and I wouldn't believe it if weren't for the graphics.

Say what you will about this game but mechanically it was very fun. Main story was w/e but I easily got ~10 million points alone doing COOP mercenaries.

Then they dropped reunion and I played even more. Excella/Wesker is some of the most fun I've had in vidya.


Yeah most other RE games are better but I don't know what else to say beyond that. I had so much less fun with 6.

Both RE 4 and 5 had invul on QTE's.

4 only had only had 2-3 types of QTE's for an enemy (head, legs). 5 had at least 7; ground, head, arm back, arm, front, legs front, legs back, and level 3. That doesn't include special team combo melees either.

There was strategy in mercs to use grab melee attacks on enemies (like crhis's back leg shot) to percent plaga spawns and gain invul during enemy attacks. A team that is well in sync can perform level 3's and they are varied and fun.

Basically it expanded the QTE system with a bunch of fun characters. You're fucking dumb.

Holy shit, why can't anyone at /v/ use the term "QTE" properly? A QTE is when the player isn't in control and he has to push a button in a very short time period to complete an action, usually to avoid getting killed. Shooting some guy and running to press a button when he's stunned isn't a QTE.

That being said, you can't really say that RE5 feels more fleshed out than RE4 because there's 3 more melee moves per character (its 5 moves per character btw not 7) when RE5 falls flat onevery other gameplay aspect. Hell, even the levels in RE4 were way bigger

And one shit I seriously hated about RE5 was the shop and how fucking random it seemed, first there's no plot explanation as to how the guys get the guns and secondly I never felt confident about upgrading a gun because you were getting a new pistol like every 3 levels and the next one completely outclassed the previous one

No, those don't have camera angle changes and I don't think all of them offer invul.

Did you mean SUPERS in fighting games?

In that case no as well because thsoe usually take more than one button to do a super. Marvel takes directional + 2 buttons, SF takes charge motions, double fireball etc, KOF takes double fireball, qcf hcb etc. etc. Only some are cinematic, not all of them offer invul, and usually none are done on a single button press.

But I don't care about defending the main game. I beat it a few times and it was pretty lame storywise but I didn't care because I liked playing COOP with my friend and mercenaries is very fun for us.

I like the game more for its mechanics than its story- as rare a stance that may be in this day and age. Sorry if that ruffles your feathers but I'm not trying to say it's game of the year- just that I had a good time with a specific aspect of it.

Controversial opinion time: 5 has the best controls (in my opinion) and while I love the RE series I have difficulty getting into the older ones (cuz the controls aren't as smooth) and the newer ones (cuz the controls are too loose) that said I while agree that it feels more formulaic (less of a journey with supplies and resources and more of a game).

I said it expanded the QTE system. I didn't say it improved on the story or whatever else.

It literally added more moves per target per character. That is my only argument.

Go read my original post. I only say it expanded the QTE system. Why are you so mad? Can't a person appreciate a game in different ways? RE5's story is a train wreck so what I got a boulder punch and a fun minigame out of it.

The thing I disliked the most about 5 is that all the jokes and campyness from 4 was just thrown out the window, and replaced with "muh serious" story. That being said, I still thought it was pretty fun on first playthrough, and Mercenaries is fun as fuck.

Kind of a mis rep of the story. They had the game looked at for one scene where a white woman was being dragged off by black dudes. It was determined to not be racist and was pretty fucking stupid to begin with. Regardless, they whitened up some of hte models, added some white and brown people, etc. Seemed like they backed down.


Then halfway through the game you literally fight nearly blue-skinned ooga boogas that jump 10 feet high and chuck spears at you.

that's my major complaint with most Japanese games. Sure /v/ loves that shit but I really enjoy how western devs polish videogames before churning out. Never understood how nobody here ever cares about how clunky the game is, but only for the le fun core gameplay meme (even though I really didn't enjoy it in RE5-6).

They understood some of what made RE4 great and misunderstood a lot more.

You also have to consider what kind of bad ideas didn't make it into RE4 due to scope cuts or arbitrary choices - things they may have simply gone the other way with RE5.

There's the cultural and demographic targets they wanted to hit in Japan and in the West, and the dissonance that results from trying to do that in a single product.

Lastly, this was at the height of the "if we copy call of duty, our game will also seem 5 million copies on day 1!" bullshit that was proliferating the industry.

All the complaints about single player and the retarded AI for RE5 are perfectly justified. Co-op is the best in the franchise though. Also, the attache case in 4 sucks. Being able to hot swap in 5 is infinitely better
