Both untrue, some dislike and they occasionally criticize her. But not everyone liking you is the normal state of the world and her friends indulge her more than criticize.

Plus if you are going to do that you need to do one of two things, explore the reasoning or develop her. They fail at the second one, the game ends at the point where it is possible she may develop in the future with her reaching that point just being she bummed around for enough time. It attempts the first but fails as it. Either passing the blame, going as far to saying her mental problems are really just a big monster that instead of beating in a way that says anythings rocks fall on it and they go away. Or they just go well guess I'm fucked up UGH, this could only work if she was a well fleshed out character not a bag of cliches.

It is like the writing was done by someone who hasn't developed enough them self and are basically stuck at the point slightly beyond Mae. The writing in general is terrible, they try to go for realistic dialogue but actually read it out load and it sounds nothing like it.

The point is more that is a bad way to deal with it for any point being made. Persona 4 has it's own problem but the accepting your shadow bits work well and does thematically resonate. Here it just doesn't really connect up at all, there is a big monster that republicans feed to make the town better but it makes just Mae be shitty or exacerbates issues she has to cause that? Someone could probably frame it to work but the game doesn't, it feels like multiple pieces were missing and many weren't really explained. But it still really doesn't fit that well with the rest of the game outside things are shitty and I guess this is a solution.

Honestly that whole bit should have been cut, if they spent the last act on characters the game could have at least been competent.
