It just occurred to me that with the placement on the timeline, Prime 4 and Samus Returns are going to be happening right next to each other. Depending on the plot, Prime 4 currently has the potential to lead directly into Metroid 2 by being THE event that caused the Galactic Federation to order the extermination of the Metroids. Previously it was the events of Metroid/Zero Mission that got the Federation wary of Metroids, but the Prime series inserted the Phazon crisis right in the middle of the that and overshadowed the Metroids themselves.

The one thing Federation Force actually did was have that teaser of Sylux stealing a Metroid. What are the chances that Prime 4 could in fact be the game tying the main series and sub series together by reminding the Federation just how fucking dangerous Metroids are?

As the damage tables imply, it's defensive strength is not matched to the Chozo power suit's armor so she'd want to recover another one as she did near the end of Zero Mission.

Ideally she'd do this by setting out to find where the chozo went/are and get an updated and more advanced version, since the power suit we know and love is ~10 or 20 years oudated at least. But I doubt the writers will want to ever involve chozo in the flesh.

I like the Chozo, magic space birds is a cool concept. But I also don't really care about asspulls or excessive lore or any of that. I wouldn't care if they decided to bring back the X-parasites in the future for example, or if Prime 4 decided to use the evolved Metroids for some good fights. I have almost 100% confidence that Prime 4 will not take place in the same slot that the other Primes have. That trilogy is over, and the fact that a Metroid egg is under such incredible security on a heavily armed GF ship in FedForce tells me that it takes place after they've been exterminated, which is why it is so valuable. Assuming Prime 4 (which is a working title by the way, it will most likely not be called Prime 4) takes place as Fed Force, it may very well take place after Metroid 2, probably after Super.

I'd accept a time stopping upgrade or something for Samus because that might be cool, but the only thing that a time travel plot might be good for is too see the Chozo pre-Metroid. Only since Tanabe said a while back his plan for any future games wouldn't involve phazon or the Chozo that's kind of a wash. There's basically nowhere else to go in the past and I don't think they'd do the future in a game so early on the timeine.

Best case scenario would be the time travel being only on the one planet and not involving the history of the Metroid universe at all. IIRC that same interview said he was comparing the idea to the Prime 2 Dark Aether but not an absolute hellstorm of death and misery.

That would be silly. There's no reason to split them. It'd make me say "well, ok I guess. But why?" Everything fits pretty nicely together, tech-wise as well, and you can track the federation reverse engineering Samus's stuff over time with Other M being somewhat of a wrinkle.

Samus going to the metroid homeworld to extinguish the entire species doesn't make as much sense after one game where the space pirates were a bigger menace anyway, compared to doing it after four games where they were constantly fucking her up. But at the same time, Prime 3 goes way too heavy on the phazon stuff and hurts how it was ever supposed to segue into the events of Metroid 2.

Just finished AM2R. I give it a really solid 8.9/10.

Only reason it's not a 9+ is because it's too faithful to Metroid 2's lackluster ending. You don't even really know that the Metroid Queen is coming up and, indeed, it is a pretty rad fight built up to with a very spooky area before it, but it's not very difficult for one and isn't really built up to in a lore sense. You can tell that the metroids are getting bigger as you go along, but the game kinda just throws it at you with no real warning and doesn't really telegraph the idea that "yes, this is the final boss." I was expecting like another half-hour of gameplay. Still, I can't really fault it for being faithful, so it's not a big hit in my mind.

It really is a whole different beast compared to Super, Fusion, or ZM, so I'd like to avoid comparison to those games, but damn do I wish some of the level design and pacing were taken from those games and put into this.

I just want Anthony to stick around as a dumb comic relief character with 40mm-thick plates of plot armor everywhere that shows up EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE (so, not all the time) to kinda distract the player for a bit and refresh them (Metroid games as they are are kinda hard to do in one sitting I find because they put you on edge all the time)

Someone who Samus sees like, 3 times per mission and just says, "oh, look, there's that dumb, lovable asshole again." I find it amazing that they managed to make one single likable character in Other M. I think it was the mix of just how stupid he was wrapped in a SINGLE layer of competence (I mean, he's a pretty good fighter).

Then, eventually, we get a spinoff starring him, where he is either doing some cleanup job after Samus has already cleared a place out or alternatively you play as him leading the expedition team that Samus has got to eventually go save, barely making it out with like a quarter of your men to the tune of some Benny Hill bullshit while Ridley desperately wants to rip you to shreds like he mistook you for Masahiro Sakurai.

Basically, Anthony's got some great unobstrusive comedy potential in the otherwise atmospheric and somewhat-creepy Metroid universe.

Anthony is literally the ONLY competent character in Other M. He's the one that stopped the Bottle Ship from crashing into GF headquarters while Samus was busy fighting the Metroid Queen, and the mere fact that he was still fucking alive stopped the corrupt commander from arresting Samus on bullshit charges. He was MVP of the actual "plot" while Samus did nothing but slaughter all wildlife on the station.

Anthony Higgs: the sole redeeming factor.
