Would you have let X keep Zero's saber after X6 and see him get better with it, or given Zero a second saber?
>>
>>381273374

>or given Zero a second saber?

DUAL WIELD
>>
I hated how his saber went from a nice curvy one to the straight one he had later.
>>
i would just get rid of zero 2bh
>>
>>381273620
I was under the impression the curve was a motion effect because he doesn't leave it on when he swings, and he swings it faster than X did. I mean unless you're talking about the Zero series artwork which didn't reflect in the sprites too well.
>>
>>381273492
I'm amazed no one at IntiCreates thought to do this. They loved Zero harder than Inafune.

Then again there's this concept art here, so they clearly did think about it. I guess they couldn't figure out how to implement it. Same for X's dual busters, I guess.
>>
>>381273934
I'm pretty sure dual busters were just an excuse for the sprite flipping.
>>
>>381273934
Recoil Rod was the closest they got
>>
>>381273875
are you stupid? x's animation with the saber was the same one as zero's third strike in x4/x5, and >>381273620 was pointing out that zero in x6 - onwards didn't have a curved saber (or it didn't look curvy anymore when he was using it)

>>381273869
I don't think getting rid of him is the solution. He's more a symptom of the problem: fewer on the team were in X's corner once Zero became a playable character.

I know exactly how you feel though.

>>381273987
I dunno, but the concept and the execution were awesome in X2 except for the part where X has to stop in place. They could've gone farther with it and the idea behind the cross-charge shot in X3, like charging two special weapons at once to use in combos against stronger enemies, and/or combining two weapon effects.
>>
>>381273987
What? They gave X Dual Busters all the way back in X2, Zero got the same ability in X2 and even kept it in X3.

>>381273934
Is probably part right. Double busters was a sprite flipping excuse for Mega Man, but it was clearly the next step of the perception of the power. X was the "for teenagers" Mega Man so giving that as a powerup makes sense but increased the spritework for the double attack.
>>
>>381274403
zero didn't have dual busters, he fired two consecutive shots from one buster
>>
>>381274403
I kinda forgot he had them as an actual gameplay mechanic, the only X I consistently replay is 4 so my bad.

I dunno, I actually liked the straight lightsaber look. The curvy whip one was cool, but I guess by the time X6 rolled around I welcomed seeing something different from his saber combat. It also seems to extend out a lot farther, which reminds me of Super Star Wars.

I wanted Zero to not be playable after 5 and X gets better with saber. There's something about "passing the torch" moments that makes wish it happens more and stayed like that after 5
>>
>>381275376
it's actually interesting that, if you take zero's sword in x3 without having the buster upgrade, it only works close range (same as zero in x3). but if you have the armor part, then it fires as a beam (like zero does in x2).

so, it means zero is stronger in x2 than x3. makes sense if you consider that later on in x5, he can also do it while possessed (and is even stronger with full on virus powers), but can't as a playable character
>>
>>381273620
It was never curvy in the cutscene from X4 though. Was straight in Zero's little bout with Colonel.
>>
>>381274403
Why did everything cool about busters die with the SNES? Was it really too much work to not make the charged shot a watery ball of snot-green energy, let alone improving on the double shot upgrade?

Even the Ultimate shot looks like a big fucking loogie.

As fun as it is to make pinups; a second saber wouldn't be a good game idea. Melee around a 2D character fighting in 2 dimensions is not too variable.

Is he going to just switch hands halfway through?
Is he going to do get an upgrade that adds a second hitbox to a previous attack animation?
Or are they going to have him roll through attacks moving his sprite around the hitboxes as he leads into them?

I'd sooner be onboard with Zero taking a different weapon... akin to what happens in the Zero games with the shield and staffs but as a primary.
>>
>>381275692
X6 has awful level designs though.
>>
>>381275813
so does x5
>>
>>381275813
No it doesn't
>>
>>381275692
The only thing bad anyone has to say about the Zero series is the art style, and even then it's probably a small minority.

I personally didn't care about the Cyber Elf bullshit or the ranking and leveling up. My favorite was Zero 4, though Zero 1 did a lot to distinguish itself from the 8-stage paradigm, so that one's also my favorite.
>>
>>381275874
5 has some of the more cooler bosses though
>>
>>381275874
One plus of X5 is that you can skip every stage but the virus ones.
>>
>>381276069
having the option of not playing the game doesn't make it better dude. it just means the game is so bad you'd rather not play it
>>
>>381274628
Yeah, I prefer the lightsaber look too.

>>381275907
I don't like how jumps work on MMZ. You fall way too fast.
>>
>>381276154
Yeah I can't really disagree with that.
>>
>>381275692
Yeah I don't really understand the love for X4. Worst fortress stages in the series, special weapons aren't particularly good and the boss fights aren't that great either. X5 would be much better if Alia didn't speak, but aside from that it's a solid game. X6 is not well designed yet for some reason I enjoy it.

X1 and X2 are far and away the best in the series.
>>
>>381275640
I have reservations about a lot of the PSX games. like the eagle hover upgrade being infinitely inferior to the X2 and X3 airdash.

But I think in general the devs stopped trying to do interesting platforming with X sometime around then with stage design. Ride chaser levels like Overdrive Ostrich where the chaser was a bonus to getting through the stage, not your life in the stage.
>>
I'd end that fucking series like it was supposed to be

>>381275804
Might work better in a fighting game context, but one easy way out is to simply extend the combos from three to six moves. It's easier to make distinct moves with two sabers than one, and you could also extend the feature or attacking left/right by a couple seconds, depending on how fast you swing. It's about chaining more moves together, and possibly finishing with a bigger move at the end of a full chain.
>>
Legends 1 is objectively and measurably better than Legends 2 and anyone who thinks otherwise is the ugliest boy in the world
>>
>>381276069
>>381276154
That reminds. I know it's possible to shoot down the colony with the cannon, but how the fuck do you do it?
a special order in which you do the stages?
>>
>>381276402
Shut the fuck up legends 2 is the best megaman game and blows 1 out of the fucking water
>>
>>381276402
Legends is not a good game.

At least admit you just care about the plot.
>>
>>381276516
I've never seen that happen in any of my runs, but I'd assume it's random like keeping Zero.
>>
>>381276516
i think it's just rng. each part you get increases the chance of it working. i know i've gotten it to work before but i don't think there's a stage order or anything of the sort. maybe if you clear the right side bosses first, then the left side? i honestly don't know

>But I think in general the devs stopped trying to do interesting platforming with X sometime around then with stage design. Ride chaser levels like Overdrive Ostrich where the chaser was a bonus to getting through the stage, not your life in the stage.

That's my general feeling on the matter. Most of the stages in X4, for example, were either strictly horizontal or strictly vertical, with little variation overall. Jet Stringray's stage and Split Mushroom's are the most extreme examples of this. Little room or opportunity to try out spiffy air dash or some other dynamic mobility mechanic, but lots of opportunities to hover around, and by lots I mean that one mid-boss in Storm Owl's stage.
>>
>>381276516
It's randomized but your chances get better if you target the Mavericks with the cannon parts.
>>
>>381276562

My nigger. Tightly designed adventure game with arguably the best charm of the franchise. Would replay.
>>
>>381276878
So I'm pretty sure the canon one is where X and Zero die and then Light erases X's memories of Zero and he builds the utopia for humans.
>>
>>381276562

>>381276878

They never made an actual bridge for the X and Zero games, did they?

Humanity must be seriously fucked by the time of X5.
>>
The ranged/melee dynamic of X and Zero shouldn't really be tampered with as long as both of them are playable.
>>
>>381277368
I can dig the challenge, but HideofBeast became one with the game and revealed its truth.

It's the Lost Levels of Mega Man X, but arguably unfinished.

>>381277405
I've always wondered how people forgot about everything that happened in 20XX by the time 21XX rolled around.
>>
>>381277405
X5's colony destroyed ending was supposed to be the bridge, but Capcom made X6 in secret. Thus, Zero's ending in X6 is meant to be the link (X7, X8 and Command Mission either happen before that ending or are an alternate timeline).

Sure but how many humans were left after all the shit that happened in the X series.
Sure X1-3 was pretty much basic Megaman stuff, but shit hit pretty much the fan from X4 onward with the armed forces starting a coup, a space colony being taken over and is then destroyed and still fucks up the planet big time and then of course there is X6 where a lot of shit looks like it's a post apocalypse.
>>
>>381278000
Man I'm all kinds of fucked today but thanks for clarifying
>>
>>381278069
X6 is definitely post-apocalyptic with all the humans forced to live underground or die from space radiation.

Being a human in Megaman sure is hard. No wonder everyone is enhanced as fuck in the ZX games.

It's really gotta be shitty when the robot soldiers they made to protect them decided to try and blow up the planet with some space canon that just exists for some reason.
