After all these years I still don't get it. If synths are 100% indistinguishable from a normal human, all the way to the cellular level (excluding the two small mechanical parts used for the institute to give them orders) How the fuck can they live forever or not bread?
>>
>>381263540
Because bethesda
>>
>>381263540

because bread has a short shelf life
>>
>>381263540
Better question: What was even the reason to build them?
>>
>>381263540
They're supposed to be a reference to Replicents from Blade Runner right? Could they reproduce? It's been so long since I saw that movie.

>find out FO4 has synths in it
>nice
>play it
>they're bladerunner style

god damnit, all I wanted were mechanical people that were well made/written enough to still brings the question "what makes one human" to the table, despite them being actual metal.
>>
>>381263726
Weren't they trying to make humans that weren't susceptible to radiation and other sicknesses?
>>
>>381264008
But Nick and DiMA already fill that roll anon.
>>
>>381264057
That sounds incredibly dumb. Why not just build proper radiation cleanup equipment and disposal?
>>
>>381263540
wait so why were they killing people and replacing them with synths
Like they could've just introduced them and nobody would've cared
why did they try to kill the MC even though he was vital to the plan
how are raiders able to hand build ak47's in mass quantity
If that brotherhood member was a synth the entire time, why aren't other synths able to infiltrate the air balloon and blow it up
>>
>>381264008
Curie?
>>
>>381264242
Curie was a fucking Miss Nanny you shove into a Synth Body and inexplicably acted like a person so Beth could pander to the waifu audience

>>

>>
>>381264202
>how are raiders able to hand build ak47's in mass quantity
They actually have synths infiltrating rider factions everywhere. Not even joking.

Don't have an answer for the other questions.
>>
>>381264652
they can just infiltrate it and suicide bomb it
Like aren't they meant to be expendable?
>>
>>381264752
I guess but a suicide bomb wouldn't do that much to the airship unless you got some huge ass explosion
>>
>>381264915
I'm sure if they can create synthetic gorillas they can build a synth with a mininuke shoved up its ass
>>
The institute is full of social retards who have a romanticized view on all of their actions. That's their key flaw. No one would care about synths if they hadn't decided to murder all of the local leaders in a display of power.

Hydrogen is pretty much the only gas that is available in the quantities needed to lift a huge ass airship. I'm guessing the gas is contained in some pretty robust containers to prevent any stray bullets from idiot raiders or super mutants from bringing the whole ship down like the Hindenburg.

Alternatively, the containers the gas is housed in my be made of some sort of self-sealing material. I know plastics aren't as developed in the fallout universe, but maybe the brotherhood discovered them at some point. The prydwyn also has a fuck ton of powerful engines, so maybe it just has enough hydrogen to acheive some kind of neutral buoyancy and the powerful engines then keep it in position. There's definitely not enough hydrogen in whatever we're shown to keep the whole thing aloft.

>Tfw we will never get a game where we can play as the Enclave or at the least support their faction.

The problem is that they are always shallow and unnecessarily genocidal. This sucks because if they were more grey morally, they would be a fantastic foil for the Brotherhood. The Enclave essentially wants to rebuild the world, the Brotherhood wants to control technology to stop the old world from coming back again. That's the perfect antithetical values to base conflict around.

The bad points for the Enclave should be that they are tyrannical and exploit wastelanders as conscripts and producers. The Enclave should be feared because they train their troops to shoot first, ask questions later at the first sign of danger. Like they are trained to prioritize unit survival over the lives of civilians. Not because they have standing orders to murder everyone just because.

I still don't understand why the Institute couldn't have taken over the Commonwealth? Boston is essentially a hick town compared to anything on the west coast, and it seems very plausible and doable for the Institute to go on the offensive and take over. Capture everyone, force them into slave labor to help create more synths, and when they're not needed anymore get them corralled into central Boston and nuke the place.

Doc Henry's philosophy in fallout 2 would work well, they still are human supremacists but are working cure mutation instead of genocide.

What detail? They first designed her to be in a wheelchair and then changed their mind, now she's not. Why are you getting so angry over this? It was a preliminary design. What effect does her being in a wheelchair or not have on your life? If it really makes you this angry, why are you even here talking about the game? Why continue coming to these threads and complaining they didn't put her in a wheelchair? What's it going to change? Why does it matter to you so much? Every drawing or idea doesn't become canon until it's actually implemented in the finished product.

And she's such a minor character that I just can't see what the fuss is about. You can go an entire play through without ever speaking to her. She's not important in the least.

To be fair the game flipflops just how ""human"" Synths are. (Just like Ghouls. See: >>381268014 ) General consensus is Gen 3's are more or less 3D printed people with built-in cybernetic augmentations. Synth bodies were lab made. Lab is exponentially more precise at making people than people are. Because of that precision, the bodies are perfect and don't degrade like normal people. They can't breed because the the Institute couldn't figure out how to make it work, couldn't get the cells to do what they would normally do.

This isn't suppported by the canon at all, (probably because Todd and co. didn't give that much of a crap about backstories) but it's what I would say if I was one of the dumbasses that works at beth soft and got asked a "Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder" question.

The enclave aren't so bad. If anything, they can be viewed as the last, best hope of humanity. The wasteland is just so cruel and unforgiving, the only way to conquer it is to be even more brutal. As the series often laments, war never changes. The enclave are a personification of this point.

That's easy. As far as the Institute is concerned, everyone outside is basically doomed and it's all up to the Institute to save the world. But what if they fuck up and get rekted themselves? Well, let's make these robots that are basically human in every way, except seemingly without illness, age, hunger, etc. all able to be basically printed out of a big ass printer. If all the people are dead, then the synths can take up the mantle of human beings. Basically, they're a contingency plan for the Institute.

Or a big dumb army of supersoldiers because the writers are fucking lazy.

I thought it was more to aquire a large stockpile of mini nukes for BOS operations. I don't remember them being concerned about being attacked. The range on fatman launchers probably isn't even far enough to hit the prydwyn, but they could fuck up the base at the airport I guess.

The bigger question is what does the BOS even do with that massive stockpile of mini nukes? I've never see a BOS knight or anyone using a fatman, and it's not like they were needed for liberty prime because it uses Mk. 28 bombs.

And why the fuck is Dr. Li such a fucking cunt after your blow up the institute? She was on-board 100% until you actually blew it up. Then you talk to her after and she tells you off like the Institute was a bunch of fucking saints. And you can't even talk back and remind her of all the atrocities the institute had commited with gleeful abandon to the consequences. It just made me hate the institute more, since all the scientists probably thought just like her, that they were doing good when in reality everyone who actually had to deal with the horror of being body-snatched (or having a loved one replaced), the super mutants, and all the other fucked up experiments the institute conducted.

There's a terminal entry on one of the named brotherhoos NPCs that nobody cares about warning maxson that if they dont secure the mini nuke stockpile soon, it's only a matter of time before the mutants decide to start shooting at the blimp. The same terminal entry states that the prydwen is currently parked well within fat man range.

likewise, as I've mentioned before official sources are lacking

the wiki is written by a majority and they seem to think Synths don't age. Now - In theory, it would make sense for the Institute to create something that can outlast a human being without worry of breaking down, but as we've firmly established the Institute is pants-on-head retarded about their experiments and Bethesda even moreso for not even caring to flesh them out or give them a conceivable motivation besides "hurrdurr evil science yo"

>>
>>381276575
Probably because it's easier to half-ass it like they have been for the past decade. Oblivion was awkward, but people could forgive it back then for its scale as an early title for a new generation. But then you get to Skyrim and occasional bouts of content feel like some mod author slapped some shit together (the Barbas and Clavicus sidequest in particular) while big, 'cinematic' moments have little to no budget or effort besides voiceacting put into them. And Fallout 4 is a shitshow all of its own.

It's weird too because certain dialogue scenes in 4 clearly have entirely unique animations, particularly the Salesman in the intro, though I don't know if he's mocapped, but most of the time it's like they just didn't care.

>Example of what? There is really no reason to kill him since he was never an infiltrator in the first place

Danse wanted to die Anon, because whether he was an infiltrator or not wasn't the point. The BoS took a Hardline against synths. Now that they know danse is one, they can't just say "oh well all synths are bad except this guy because he's cool.", It doesn't work like that. Additionally, the BoS has no idea whether danse is an infiltrator or not. What if the institute decides to force him to go on a killing spree? What if he malfunctions or some shit and kills other BoS soldiers? There are too many what-ifs and it's easier to have him killed than risk what might happen. On top of all that, he knows way too much of the BoS' plans to simply be allowed to escape and live somewhere else. He's simply too much of a liability to keep alive.

Danse recognized all of this. He might not want to die, but he understands why it is the way it is. To spare him is to spit in the face of the elder he respects so much. It's an insult to the BoS in the Commonwealth and gives a big middle finger to their goals and mission. He's genuinely happy when you do decide to kill him and while he might he scared about dying, he knows he's dying for a just cause.

Every good aligned PC completely disproves this though. If the player can rise about the wasteland, then the enclave will always look evil in comparison if operating the way you describe.

The game has to be a lot less forgiving to the player to justify such a cold outlook on the wasteland, it just comes across as them being too weak and closed minded in comparison.

If an organization operating as you suggest existed in a far less forgiving game than even FO2, but especially 3, then they might gain more sympathy.

Can't give the enclave a pass if they tell me the wasteland is too hard to be nice when I'm trucking along not being as asshole, but still getting by.

>Dude who the fuck cares about the BoS ideology.
Danse does, above all else he cares about the BoS and their mission in the Commonwealth.

Ultimately Danse understands why he has to die, and doesn't even really fight it. If you really understand him you'll realize you have to kill him. How could he ever live with the guilt of betraying the BoS like he did? And then running away when they needed him most? That sort of guilt would drive him insane if he had to live with it while on the run. Every day he would wake up in a cold sweat, after having nightmare after nightmare of himself going on some insane rampage to kill his brothers and sisters. He believes he is a monster, just another abomination set upon the world by the institute which he hates more than anything.

If you knew what animating weapons is like, you'd understand (though it's mostly their fault). Look up stuff about the pump-action shotgun mod, you basically have to animate not only the core shit with tools that are both outdated and not easy to legally acquire, but you also have to handle every single weapon modification that weapon has simultaneously with each individual frame amidst a mess of keyname and keyframe clusterfuckery. Holy jesus fuck I can't even remember the full explanations for how bad that shit is. Even with Bethesda obviously having said obscure tools at their disposal, whatever they did for FO4 resulted in an absolute, unoptimized and complete buttfucking mess that is just disgraceful for a triple-A developer that wants people to mod their games.

Im at that part of the game actually. According to Shaun, the "Father" of the Institute, the purpose of synths was the desire to make the perfect machine. Using humans as the guidelines, they took an untouched baby(your son Shaun). And used those genes/DNA to make their perfect machine.

He might not be, but the BoS doesn't know that. You can tell them he's not a spy, but if the elder doesn't believe it then Danse needs to die. I mean, he already needs to die (in Maxson's opinion) just for being a synth, but the fact he knows so much is even worse.

>>381280663
>They know that the information you gave them listed him as a missing synth.
They don't know if he can be recaptured or somehow reconnected with the institute. It may take a while, but what if he can be controlled by them again? The institute knows he disappeared near the airport, they know the BoS is there (or would eventually determine that). They could figure it out, possibly. It's just too big a risk for the brotherhood.

And this is completely ignoring the fact that they have set a goal to wipe out every last synth. Danse is a synth and so Danse must die.
>>
Honestly the twist should have be that the Institute is all synths and the reason why they are really worried about escaped Synths is because the competition. They give no fucks about the surface world whatsoever beyond the resources and knowledge it contains.
Everyone is panicking about being replaced by synths when it's their brutal robot way of keeping track of things until they can go full Skynet.

The brighter "First Generation" mutants were mutated from a stock of pure humans, Vault Dwellers and such. The stupid ones, Second Gen and 87/Institute alike, were mutated from tainted stock, which is to say, humans who had already been exposed to radiation/mutated FEV strains.

And that is an Obsidiot who did not know about this point.

There's nothing in Fallout 1 that suggests those are Alien. That page says "possibly" and that's complete conjecture.

>the weapon called "alien blaster" that you find in the alien ufo in the encounter called "alien ship"
>Absolutely nothing about this suggests its alien

REGARDLESS, its made canon in fallout 2. it blows me away that a game that takes its entire aesthetic from lost in space, with robots ripped right out of lost in space, could have aliens

>REGARDLESS, its made canon in fallout 2
You're not talking about that bloody special encounter are you?

The BoS are hypocrites of the highest order anyway. They clam to be protecting humanity but you never hear them wanting to genocide Raiders because "Muh humanity." As if being human somehow makes you're shit stink less then being a Muty or a ghoul.

That's the weakest argument against the Brotherhood I've ever seen. Of course they don't condone Raiders, no one does. They simply don't take priority over credible threats.
To put it into context, you wouldn't send in the military to bust a gang who armed themselves with daddy's pistol
>>

>Raiders
>Not a credible threat
>Kidnaps just as many people as mutys
>Were doing fucked up shit way before the Institute became a thing.
Anon pls.

I'm pretty sure they do age, too. Raul was always talking about how he's getting on in years. He's 234.
>>
>>381293792
You're missing the point that the BoS only care about threats based on predigest not because they hurt innocent individuals just trying to make a decent living. If they really cared about helping the common person they would care about all threats equally.

The Minuitmen are the only faction that doesn't care what you are as long as you can add to the community and aren't a disruptive cunt. They would have been the best faction if they weren't a bunch of fucking obnoxious idiots who always need to be saved and can't wipe their own asses without the MC.

Also, Preston is the most boring annoying companion in the game.

Maybe it's just the mind getting tired of existing.
