Is Re: Chain of Memories better than Chain of Memories? I had to give up on the GBA version like 3/4 of the way through Sora's story and just read the rest of the story online. I like the card battling, but the movement and aiming are SHIT and the tinny music sucks when I'm used to the regular kind. Sora is adventuring through the realm of sleep. Specifically, he's traveling to the worlds locked in sleep after the debauchery in KH1 mucked them up. After he unlocks the keyhole in the sleeping world, the world should soon thereafter awaken.

But, Xehanort knows about all of this, and hijacks the process. He marks Sora with an X so that he can easily be followed, and after Sora unlocks the 7th keyhole (Which returns him to the real world), instead of returning to the real world at the place he entered the dream world, he returns to the real world at the world of the organization. At that point, Sora is in the real world. Xehanort and Braig torment Sora by putting him back to sleep, and giving him visions of his other selves to shake his resolve. When Sora is still as determined as ever, Xemnas fights him, and even though Sora wins, he's too exhausted, and succumbs to darkness.

At this point, his heart should have been lost to it completely, but Ventus shields Sora's heart, keeping him safe. But Sora's heart still becomes locked in sleep.

Riku on the other hand spends the majority of the game not in the sleeping worlds, but in Sora's dreams (Which is why when Sora wakes up, Riku sleeps, and vice versa). After the battle with Ansem, Riku escapes Soras dreams, and enters the real world at the World that Never Was.

Frankly, I think Re:CoM is the worse game. Yeah, the cutscenes are pretty nice, but any problems you had with the GBA version are exacerbated in Re:CoM. The stages you have battles on are much bigger in scale with more vertical dimension, so you're probably going to be missing attacks (and thus wasting cards) a lot more often.
