Twinsanity was a mixed bag (especially when you look at the cut content, holy shit), but it stayed faithful to the series' slapstick roots.

When Radical picked up the franchise around 2005, they didn't know what to do with it, and tried to reinvent that humor by recruiting Simpsons writers and incorporating more pop culture references into the games. It wasn't outright bad, just didn't really fit the genre.

I will agree that characterization and design certainly took a hit. Can be pretty annoying at times.
