What was your favorite part of Nocturne? I've enjoyed every single other mainline I've played (I, II, SJ, IV, IV A) but could not for the life of me get into nocturne. Story isn't that prevalent in all of the games but it felt extremely lacking in Nocturne to me.

If you like purse owner and haven't got anything to play i heavily recommend Persona 2 to you, Innocent Sin on PSP and Eternal Punishment on PS1, unless they translate the PSP version then PSP.
IT haven't got social links et cetra but all the party members except for yukino are actually really cool, the combat has a different form but it's easy to get into and the story and OST are GREAT

Yes, Nocturne is just the most popular mainline SMT game in general, but it's not P4-level. It's also the most different from the other games.
Honestly rather than Nocturne you might wanna start with IV, it's less ball-crushing and more traditional SMT compared to Nocturne.

Don't start with SMT1. It's a good game in some regards, but it would be very offputting for your first SMT. Nocturne, IV and Strange Journey are the best starting points. Nocturne is quite different from other mainline games, but it's still a fairly good place to start in my opinion.
