Has The Witcher 1 aged well? I remember hearing that it was pretty clunky compared to 2 or 3.
>>
The combat is so fucking shit I haven't touched the other two.
>>
>>381198810
In what way is it shit?
>>
>>381198931
Similar to RYSE son of rome
Basically QTEs to do extra damage that can be failed and you'll still kill shit
Only difference is TW1 has potions you can use outside of battle for temporary buffs
>>
>>381198931
You click, then you sit around like a retard waiting for your cursor to glow so you can click again. Shit gave me aids.
>>
It's a solid action-RPG
>>
>>381198764
not really IMO. i always tell idiots here who want to start with W3 not to do it because they'll get captivated with the witcher universe but struggle immensely to play the previous games after growing accustomed to W3

W1 is a great game it's just that a lot of time has passed since
>>
>>381198764
It's free on GOG if you download Gwent. Why don't you try it for yourself?
>>
They fucked up the Enhanced edition, there is a boss early on that is almost impossible to best normally

L FUCKING MAO

it's a game where you run from quest giver to quest giver and occasionally fight some drowners or bandits that are piss easy.
people who say 1 is superior are fucking snowflakes that should read a book and not play games.
>>
>>381199128
This. The combat is fucking terrible

Still though since i played Witcher 2 first 1 felt like an improvement aside from the combat of course. 3 is the best game imho

>>
It's an rpg not an action game

>wah wah why do stats matter and not my sick rolling skills?
>>
>>381201452
Second act is the better part of the game

Third act is running around in the fucking swamp for 30 hours with the most annoying fucking enemies you can think of
>>
>>381200939
Which boss would that be? The giant mantis?
>>
>>381201452

no i didn't but saying that is like
>he didn't get past the first half of the game
>i-i-it gets good at the end

kill yourself.

The dog
>>
>>381198931
It's not shit, just a different genre. More like top-down RPGs. Not at all action-y like W2 and 3.

I'm currently on a playthrough of 1, I never finished it and I felt like I should after I read the books

you are in the second act brainlet. the "first act" is the prologue
>>
>>381200939
Are you serious? I've played through EE recently and had zero problems.
>>

Kaer Morhen (prolouge)
Village (Chapter 1)
City (Chapter 2)
Swamp (Chapter 3)

Unless I remember wrong
>>
>>381202274
Mostly, swamps is chapter 2 + 3. Trade quarter opens up in 3.

The writing, atmosphere and soundtrack of the game is timeless, it's worth playing for those alone. The gameplay is fairly dated but still serviceable. It's an immensely enjoyable game all in all.

my only problem with that was the thing that I thought that the witch dies for good if she gets downed by the dog and restarted every time like a retard

>>

Yes that was a very hard boss, lots of potions spent on that one.

Plot, characters and atmosphere are fucking top. The whole chapter in Vizima is pure gold, it's the closest i've ever felt to Khorinis
I never got the hate for the combat. It's not an action game, the gameplay consists in knowing the enemy you're facing, using the right oil/potion/combat style/sword/item.
>>
English dub is shitty and makes it hard to follow the plot at times
Middle swamp chapter drags out too long.

As for the combat, just fuck it and hack Geralt so that he's maxed out. It's not like you're streaming or anything.
>>
>>381204850
>I never got the hate for the combat.
Mix of clueless consolefags and butthurt biodrones.
>>
It's a good game if you treat it as an offline MMO.
>>
>>381198764

I played it last year. Outside of the combat, it's mostly okay.
>>
>>381198764
>>381198931
You've heard wrong, and you should stop listening to literal console children who think that anything not using AssCreed / DaS control scheme and combat style is "clunky".

TW1 > all the rest.
It's the most atmospheric, immersive, and has the smoothest, most enjoyable gameplay, designed purely for the PC. And it has sooo much more going for it than just killing shit.
>>
>>381198764
They are all shit. 3 isn't the great game hundred of millions of $ marketing sold you
>>
>>381201316
>>381199128
>>381198810
You bitch niggers wouldn't know a good combat even if it hit you in the face.

TW1's combat is a reminiscence of the oldschool CRPGs, which are NOT exactly real-time nor direct-control. And it works brilliantly in the games case. You got enough tactics involved to keep it from becoming monotonous, yet fights themselves can end up being being very flashy, like Geralt's sword dancing is described to be.

I absolutely loathed what they did to the gameplay and combat in the sequel. All the sudden our super-mutant monster killer is a bitch nigger, who gets downed by a random plebeian soldier, and needs to roll on the ground, waiting for his wounds to heal? Yeah, fuck that shit.
>>
>>381198764
It is a 2007 game. How the hell can it be "aged" at all?
TW1 is way better than TW2, and still better than 3. It doesn't rush you along and the environments and atmosphere was just much better. You want to explore every thing. In TW2, it seems like CDPR tried to make it a cinematic experience, the gameplay wasn't as smooth. I don't know about anyone else but I also preferred the combat in TW1 more. It felt very fluid and the different stances were nice to use.

It gets SUPERB at the end, but it's OK right from the beginning. It's also has tons of replay value.

Chapter IV was one of the most atmospheric things I've ever seen in a game.

nice skybox doesn't mean atmospheric.

>Have to drunkenly walk back to the bonfire
>Game crashes as I get there
>>
>>381208003
It's reminiscent because it's built in the fucking Neverwinter Nights engine and they couldn't come up with anything better, not due to some flowery tribute to old-school RPGs like you seem to believe.
>>
>>381208995
Who said anything about skybox? Chapter IV had this amazing feeling of a little Slavic village in the middle of endless fields with some strange stuff happening the background. And there's the song and the Lady.
>>
>>381209265
Why would you NEED to come up with something "better", when the system in the final game is fucking perfect?

Have kids literally never held a mouse before? Still baiting with the "so slooow walking!" and shit?
>>
>>381208003
Geralt has always been described as a good swordsman but the fights in the later games where you can get fucked are group fights.

Like how he gets fucked in group fights in the books unless they take him one at a time
