I'm not sure if I should go for the TDE, it sounds like a lot of work. Do you really have to get every magatama and make sure your entire party has Pierce for the Lucifer fight?

No, neither of those are true
Just reach the end of the amala network before entering the final dungeon
Pierce helps a lot for the lucifer fight, but it absolutely isn't mandatory, I beat him wihtout even knowing Pierce was a thing.

You don't need Pierce for the entire party, but Charge + Freikugel + Pierce absolutely wrecks Lucifer (and everyone's) shit.
You'll probably only get to use it on Kagatsuchi and Lucifer though, so it's a short lived power rush but satisfying.
