Alright I posted this in an advice board on /b/ and didn't

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Alright I posted this in an advice board on /b/ and didn't really get a straightforward answer. "Alright. I require some advice. I'm on a $200 budget and I need to get a good cpu, a good graphics card, and thermal paste. I want an EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4gb and 1.75 grams of Arctic Silver thermal compound. That is $149.47 so far. So, advise me on the best cpu to get for under $50 or tell me if it would be better to have a more expensive cpu with a shittier gpu." I really don't want to do a BIOS update and I know that Intel's Kaby Lake series usually requires them. I am not sure what motherboard I have but I do know it's MSI. Any advice on computers in general would be helpful as well.

i would consider a mac

I'd look for a friend who is good with computers to help you
>>
>>381172018
They're too expensive and with PC if it's getting old or slowing down you can just be a cheap cunt and buy new parts

>/b/
fuck off kid

>>381172256
I was desperate. Sometimes if you're poorer than poor you gotta blow the homeless for pocket change. Also /v/ is video games and not really computers but /b/ is random which means you can ask about anything.
>>
for $50 the best you'll be able to buy is some shitty dual core that will definitely bottleneck the GPU

If only there were a board dedicated to Technolo/g/y

>e GTX 1050 Ti 4gb and 1
get something used.

Sorry I'm on mobile and Mimi doesn't show all the boards. Thank you.

I found this. It's more or less balanced with the card but it costs $60.

Thank you. But what if I just invested in a great $200 gpu and just use my AMD A4-6300 instead. Would that be a good idea or would it hold the gpu back so much that I might as well not buy one?
>>
>>381171379
Here is a straightforward answer: You won't be able to build a decent machine on a 200 dollar budget.
If it was just one part, it would be one thing.
But a good cpu AND a good graphics card on a 200 dollar budget isn't doable unless you are dealing with VERY used parts.

Get a mac

no processor requires a bios update why would you think this

thermal paste is a waste of money. this is not 1997 dude.
>>
>>381171379
>I am not sure what motherboard I have but I do know it's MSI.
If you don't figure that out, then no one is capable of helping you. No one has a clue what chips your board will accept.

>>381173403
I'm not trying to make it great. I am just putting this in my computer to make it able to play games at medium settings until I save up ~2000 for an actual computer

>Wasting $20 on thermal compound
Are you a moron?
>>
>>381173459
But I was on pcpartpicker and when I selected certain intel kaby lake processors with certain motherboards, it said that it may require a bios update. Also everyone tells me that thermal paste is important, can you really get away without using it? my computer has 3 or 4 fans so maybe its cool enough??
>>
>>381173459
Wrong, Intel CPUs since Haslel and AMD CPUs since AGESA has existed both require microcode on the bios for the CPU to start, if the microcode is too old for a newly released CPU, you need to boot with a supported CPU, update BIOS then try new CPU or it won't boot (won't hurt anything either, it just won't boot)
>>
>>381173876
The default paste is ok if you are nigger poor like you.
>>
>>381173848
thermal compound is $4.50
>>
>>381173876
Thermal paste is better than the goop that comes on heatsinks by default, yes.
But in a $200 budget, you're wasting money on it, you'd get far better returns using the money elsewhere.
>>
>>381174060
Alright so no thermal paste. How about the AMD FX-6300 6-Core for 85 and then I can get a 115 dollar cpu?
>>
>>381173876
older motherboards do need a bios update to work with newer kaby lake processors, I know i needed one for my g4560

Nigga I'll tell you the real deal
Buy an ok processor and fuck the gpu
Why? because you can get an ok psu and processor so you can at least emulate old vidya.
It is your best bet, that's what I did myself.
Then you can save later for a 1050 ti.
That's all I can tell you.
>>
>>381174231
Better than no CPU for sure, for honestly at $200 budget, I'd be looking at a used Haswell Optiplex and a GPU to stick in it.
On such a really tight budget, buying new is also going to eat well into your funds.

Some of us are 35+ now, but we all started at the bottom too, we know what it means the scrape by on whatever you could afford. Used is typically the way to go.
>>
>>381174375
I don't really know how to update though. Will it tell me at startup how to? Also I don't have to redownload my OS when putting in a new cpu right?
>>
>>381171379
Spend 100 on a GTX 1050 ti
Wait a few months
Buy an i7
Wait a few months
Get everything else
>>
How about this AMD cpu

>>
>>381175126
If you buy outdated shit you will have to replace the processor, ram and motherboard once you upgrade.
Are you sure this is what you want?
