What's your STR at? With 6STR I can manage two guns, a melee and light armor pretty well, but no more. I mainly have one pistol and a grenade launcher for a pinch, I often have to drink alcohol to boost my carry weight up to transport loot back to my home. Using the Mojave Express boxes is a must.

I should clarify that I'm playing on Hardcore so ammo and all of the food/water I'm lugging around weighs me down significantly as well, and if I clear someplace out and want to keep the spoils I have to keep a companion at the ready or make immediate trips back to civilization before I go clearing out another dungeon/camp.

Some the most fun I've had in the game is taking them on at like level 3 with a Caravan Shotgun and a bunch of 20 gauge slugs. Yes follow this path exactly, sneaking when you get to Black Mountain. Once you get to Recon Headquarters, you're past the cazadors and deathclaws, home free. Be sure to take the dead NCR soldier's uniform when you get to the rolling boulder trap at Black Mountain. You can use it to ride the monorail into New Vegas from Camp McCarran.

Easiest way to get past the deathclaws is by sneaking to the cliff face that runs north of black mountain then hanging a hard right to go up and around where the NCR safe house is. Ive snuck past the cazadors once just to see if I could do it, its a lot harder but you have to hug the invisible wall along the mountains.
