From what I played of it, it's a great game. I Gamefly'd it a few months ago and greatly enjoyed myself. Now that I actually have a job and stuff, I'm definitely going to pick it up for the Switch.

People complained about the pacing of the game and stuff, but it's really not that slow. I really think it's bretty gud as someone's first fighting game, as its easy to get into but some characters are kinda tough to learn, like Sceptile or Mewtwo.

I think it's really fun. It's very beginner friendly for people like me who don't play a lot of fighting games while also not being completely shallow once you start getting the hang of it. The roster is small but it has no clones whatsoever and the balance is almost perfect. Unfortunately the local multiplayer was a pain to play in the original but they seem to have fixed that in the Deluxe version. Hope it sells well enough for them to consider a full sequel.

From the time I played it was a pretty fun game. Too bad the console version was dead on arrival since it never got any support and the arcade version was the only version that seemed to ever get anything

I got Pokken for Wii U on release, I think there was a grand total of one /v/ thread for weekends like Smash. Then it moved to /vg/ because it was barely alive here. Due to the retarded lobby system on the WiiU version, it was difficult to tell if anyone was playing in the /vg/ lobby. Then the /vg/ threads were dying off, so they moved to /vp/, where it also slowly died off.

tl;dr, better get on it quick if you want to play. I do hope that DX is better received, even if I probably won't be getting a Switch for a while yet.

Pretty fun, and really accessible for a fighting game.

I love the concept and really want to see it do well at EVO and have a community.

Honestly though I would have preferred it be strictly fighting types and half types.
Blind pick three, elemental typing advantages, tag team in and out.
Disadvantaged matchups rely on fighting and physically based moves as well as differences in movement to try and make up for their weakness or create openings to switch out.

Pokken never actually died, it still has a pretty active playerbase, around 4000, which for a year old fighting game on a console as dead on the wiiu is amazing, and the competitive scene is at a ton of majors and gets decent entrant numbers.

Pokken's issue isn't actual activity, it's buzz. Nobody talks about it on social media, almost nobody produces or watches video or stream content for it, it gets barely any disscusion on fourms. The only place to consistrntly talk about it is on the community discord for it everybody uses.

Man, as a Machamp player, this surprises the hell out of me. I remember when I was playing online, just getting in to Chandalure was a problem. Literally any zoner would fuck Machamp up. But actually getting in, dealing damage, and taking away half of their health bar in one combo was so fucking satisfying.

Machamp vs Chandelure is probably the single worst matchup in the entire game.

The thing about machamp is he has a few really terrible matchups, like you said, but he has a lot of strong points and decent and good matchups as well. Chandelure has absolute shit frame data and her and gardevoir have a lot of flaws.

At the end of the day, though, every character is viable.

I'm a Pokemon fan who, like most, primairly likes the franchise for its mainline handheld games and I got into Pokken very easily. Last fighting game I played before that moment was fucking Soul Calibur 3 on PS2 and I did literally nothing but button mash in that game.

I feel like being a fan actually allows me to appreciate this game more, with its various nods to the mainline series and even the Pokemon anime.

Even though I think it's disgusting that they are charging full $60 for what is essentially a content patch that we shouls have gotten ages ago, I will probably still pick it up. I'm selling my WiiU copy along with the controller to offset the cost down to about $10 and I can see myself putting way more time into it as a portable game. I barely touched MK8 on Wiiu but put in dozens of hours on the Switch simply because it was now portable. I will most likely do the same with any other games that get ported the Switch. Plus there is supposedly a semi-active Pokken fightan scene in Eastern PA.

Fwiw, I don't own it but play it at a friend's place from time to time. It just seems too easy to get good at or pull off big moves or to counter, things are simplified like in most modern fighting games.
Older games would have complex move actions and timing to pull things off.
Pokken just feels like any modern fighting game with a Pokemon skin and a lackluster roster. Not necessarily bad, I'd consider buying it myself if I had a WiiU or switch, but nothing really noteworthy or stellar about it.

She's a scrub stomper, but as others have shown, rather low tier (but still plenty viable, because the game is surprisingly well balanced). Think Big Grapplers in other fighting games. newbies and mid level players think they are busted, but higher level play shows them to be rather weak.
