Friendly reminder Sony can't do anything right and this is one of the biggest opportunities missed in the history of video games.

I finally played SotC a few months ago for the first time (via the PS3 HD collection). It still runs, looks, and plays beautifully. This is the most fucking unnecessary remake/port/whatever. If people didn't own a PS3, fine, but I can't understand why anyone would be excited for this, regardless of how good the game is. Just play the PS3 version.

Oh I get how it works

Sony once again ruins any possibility of something fun. You have a whole fucking team of people rebuilding assets, coding the ai, remaking the models, everything.

Don't you fucking tell me they couldn't put in an extra colossi. Don't you fucking defend these niggers who ruined the one fucking chance to redeem themselves.

>Don't you fucking tell me they couldn't put in an extra colossi. Don't you fucking defend these niggers who ruined the one fucking chance to redeem themselves.

It's the same reason why we never got cut temples in any Zelda remasters. They were cut because they were either not fun, adapted into a different colossi, didn't fit into the game world, any number of things.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that these colossi you've seen 1-2 screenshots of each were anything more that extremely simple concepts/models with a few animations (which they weren't). For every single one, you would need to have to go back, contact any of the people involved in the original design team, pay them for consulting, make a new area or at the least displace a colossi that was there in the first place, make new models + hitboxes + animations, textures, cutscenes, music, a spot for them in the statues in the palace, and additional dialogue/story. Do you think Sony is gonna pay a studio, whose pretty much only significant work has been the SotC/Ico ports, to do all that shit when they could just scrub up a few textures and put it in a new engine and call it a day when both would sell the exact same amount?

No. Because that's a fucking ludicrous thing to think.

They left that shit out for a reason.
>>
>>381163309
You don't just slap new graphics onto a game for a second time and expect people who've played the original and the remastered to purchase another copy without adding something that they all really really really want.

t. Functional brain owner.

DLC
Each new colossus is only $4.99!
>>
>>381163309
At least half of the 8 never had an official reason for being canceled. Or the reason was bullshit.

Devil never had a reason, worm didn't have a reason, monkey didn't have a reason, and spider they were just lazy and didn't want to put in the animation for swinging the sword while riding agro.

Any of those 4 could have been put in.

>>
>>381163459

>>
What's the reason of this remaster (money, I know)? They released a hd remaster of this and ICO only a couple years ago. Why not just port that over. Seems like a waste in resources they could've used for something new and exciting.
>>
>>381163876
The entire sentence contradicts itself, caring about consoles in the first place proves you probably are indeed 12
>>
>>381161510
Fuck off. You know damn well that if they were to add the cut colossi back in, you'd be complaining that there messing with a classic and it's the blunder of the century.

>>
>>381161907
you do realize that they were cut because they were awful right? Take the spider one for example. It was near impossible to get on it and all you could do was shoot arrows at it.
Sure it looked cool, but the actual process of fighting it was not fun and a massive pain.

>>
>>381163405

I really hope that if this sells well we get some kind of sequel or something with the multiplayer element that was shown off way back when.
It would be great to take down extremely difficult Colussi with a group.
>>
>>381164237
That was the entire point of his post. There is no financial reason to.
>>
>>381163405
>Do you think Sony is gonna pay a studio, whose pretty much only significant work has been the SotC/Ico ports, to do all that shit

God forbid they at least fucking try, right? You know, try and make something fans have been asking for for a decade real? Silly me to assume that a video game company would remake a game and try to put in content that didn't make it into the original because of time constraints and technical limitations!
>>381164117
What about devil? Hiding in the grass and sneaking up? Yeah, sure sounds shitty. Or monkey, shooting it down from the ceiling in a cavern. Doesn't sound like any fun at all, based Sony making sure this awful content doesn't ever see the light of day.
>>381164243
There's a difference between changing the fundamentals of the original game and adding in a secret colossi that is optional.
>>381164021
No, I wouldn't. I would be happy that they attempted to make a video game legend come true. It would show Sony is actually trying to keep its fans excited. >>381164497
There's no financial reason to, but it shouldn't be about that. That's Sony being Jews and just pumping this out even though it's a perfect opportunity to add something that would gain genuine interest.
>>
>>381164375
That would require effort. You know just as well as I do that there's a 0% chance of them EVER coming out with a sequel/that multiplayer stuff.

Avus1.jpg
155KB, 800x600px
>>381163309
Not really, 4-5 of them were cut due to collision limitations of the engine & time constraints

Only Griffin was "cut" because the 9th Colossus remade him & the Monkey never even got an arena built for him, the others however were very much planned

Avus & Devil were 100% aimed for release & only cut at the last second
>>
>>381164497
Well since sony's money doesn't appear in my bank account I don't care about their financial reasons. If they added something new I would get the game, but if it's the same as the ps2 version I'll keep my money. Shame it won't matter because people will buy it anyway.
>>
>>381161510
You have to realize this is one of sonys most reliable cash cows as far as smaller titles go.

Its going to be $60 to get the game but don't worry. If you gut the season pass you can get 2 packs of addational content later!

The first pack will be the Challenge of the Ancients and feature 5 cut colossi and new items as rewards for defeating them. The colossi fights are in arenas separate from the main games map but themed after areas in it. You can get this for $25.
The second piece of content will be called Dormins Ruin and feature content focused around the mysterious entity featured in the main game. This will feature a new piece of map to explore and also cost $25.
The season pass will give you a deal at $40 so please be sure to pre-order the base game to generate interest in the title!
>>
>>381164617
have you ever thought that maybe these bosses were unbeatable and completely unbalanced and just outright wouldn't work?
Lots of things sound good on paper, but don't work well in reality, like the Ouya or the GBA link cable.
>>
>>381163405
>>381164237
But they DO add shit to remakes/remasters.
The new Metroid 2 remake for example is apparently adding new areas, probably new bosses, new powers and that whole new combat option in the melee counter.

Zelda remasters added/fixed a lot of shit too. Master Quests are fucking amazing and that's just using existing assets.

They totally could have done shit to rework the flaws with the cut collosi and implement them.
>>
>>381164882
Although that's jew tactics, at least they would make it real.

I would prefer they charge extra like the kikes they are than have the colossi lost forever.
>>
>>381165005
>unbeatable and completely unbalanced

If only game developers could some how change these things and make them more fair and balanced.

Nah the Spider had 2 versions, first one was you had to lead him to water & the second one was you rode around on Agro & swiped at his legs

Spider got cut because time constraints, they had to add unique animations just for this one fight, swiping your sword while riding, but by that time the demo disc was being printed & it had to be cut

some rough animations exist for this in the first demo of the game but don't have any effect on anything
>>
>>381165014
But we are talking about the SotC remake. Of course there are good remakes out there.
>>
>>381164628
I don't know about that. After the so so reaction to The Last Guardian I would think they would try and work on something they know people want.
A sequel would be a great opportunity to implement the unused Colussi from the first game and actually make them functional and fun.
>>
>>381165015
I unironically agree. Regardless of price, at least we'd finally be able to experience these fights. Besides, you could wait for a GOTY edition with all the DLC included later anyway.

Don't remake something if you don't have a reason too.

Fire red got the severii islands that were planned for the original. Devs now are just lazy. Remakes are not to improve the product but just to sell the same shit to casual babies who don't bother to play games they missed from past generations.

I look forward to when they remake demon's souls without the 5th archstone because gamers are such faggots they don't care.

This sums up so much wrong with the current consumer mindset. If its old it cant be good.

Meanwhile people who actually enjoy their preferred medium go out of their way to foind communities and classics they may have missed no matter the age. Movies, books, games, or art. Yet modern fags from all over will hate shit thats old only to re-watch the office twelve dozen times.

A complete remake makes sense actually if you look closely at the trailer. There was something off about the way Wander and Agro animated, almost like there was a different physics engine at play generating the way they moved.

If this is truly the case, I'm going to be very curious how this turns out and if they manage to clean up some of the wonky aspects of the original or add anything new.

Uncharted 4 is a bad game. Frame rate doesn't matter because it isn't worth playing regardless. PC fags don't understand this, if a game meets that 60fps 1080P/4k benchmark it's automatically better than any game that doesn't because they are incapable of telling the difference between a good game and a bad game. If I recall correctly, yes, some of them WERE cut for that very reason. Like, seriously, just coming up with an idea and taking the time to model it doesn't automatically mean you've got the mechanics in place to make it enjoyable.

That's just how game development works. Not every idea you come up with is a good one and sometimes you have no way of finding that out until you start trying to put it into practice. Not every idea is viable.
>>

>>
>>381174393

Okay. I'm upset that the cut colossi couldnt be worked back into the game. I understand why they weren't added back in, mainly seeing how a team set on creating remakes/remasters probably don't quite have the skill time/resources to make something off of their own but I think a lot of the reasonings in this thread are bad.
>They were cut because they were bad
But now is their chance to possibly rework them to be good. This again falls under their probable lack of time/resources/knowledge. The fact that they were bad to start with isn't why they're cut. Is the time/resource/knowledge thing.

I still think it's quite odd that, since they're rebuilding this entire game from scratch, that they don't also rebuild some cut or some new colossi from scratch since they're not 'entirely' working off any pre-existing asserts but I'm sure there's a valid reason as to why they're not added that's not 'they're bad to begin with'.
On top of not having the resources and any real base/reference to create new colossi, they'd also have to allocate an area for it (which I don't think would be too much since they're still rebuilding the game from scratch, but what do I know? I don't know a lot about how the game is created.)

Another thing I was wondering is, would you purchase the cut colossi if they were added later as DLC? What would be a reasonable price for them?
What other than cut colossi could the team add to make you personally feel like the remake is worth a purchase?

Oh fuck off with this kind of nonsense. Limitations and boundaries are what help shape the quality of a product. Unhindered "visions" go wild and quality control goes out the fucking window. Not having the ability to do everything you want forces you to take a step back and put everything into perspective. It's only with that perspective that you can look once more at everything piece by piece and focus on improving what you actually CAN do. You can take a second look and see that some other aspect is much more important than you originally thought and put that effort into refining that. Just fucking look at what George Lucas did with the original trilogy. Want a game example? Look at Yooka Laylee. It's the same damn thing. Playtonic called that their "dream game" and because nobody was ever there to tell them "no, this isn't going to work" we got a game packed full of what felt like half finished or otherwise unrefined ideas that still felt like a glorified alpha build.

If you enjoyed Banjo Kazooie or the original Star Wars, you can't completely discount Playtonic or Lucas as creators. It's true that they clearly have some really bad ideas and when left unchecked, their projects spiral into garbage. yeah, and if the legs are too thin and move too quickly, then it makes such a mechanic impossible. Holy fuck, think for two seconds before you let your fingers touch the keyboard. "Oh, but they could have slowed the legs down!" you say. Well, that very likely changed another aspect of the fight in a way that wasn't fun or didn't fit. I don't know about you but a big spider boss that lacks one of the most iconic traits of a spider, that being its speed and agility, seems pretty unfitting to me.

Also, not gonna lie, no matter what, nothing about the original plan sounds fun. Melee combat on horseback in games has pretty much always controlled like shit and SotC is no exception. I'm glad the idea was scrapped because it would have been pretty not fun.

Adding just one would have made this an insta-buy for me; but at the same time adding a new one would possibly kill some of that mystique.
