Not the free to play model it is now. I'm not telling you the game was GOAT, I genuinely believe it was and I loved every second of it.

That said, no. It is shit now. Before going free2play they made a huge number of "fixes" to make the game more accessible to everyone. Taking out the only dangerous wildlife, halving the health of all other wildlife (might as well not even be there anymore for hunters), huge pillars of light to show you where an elite wildlife is, giving everyone a dome and making the trapper's ability just "point to monster" and made every Trapper's kit useless. The game was no longer 50/50 wlr and Hunters just slowly became 80/20.

To be honest, if I hadn't watched all the streams and developer updates before the game came out I'd probably suck at it too. The game had a lot of intricacy that few people who just jumped in the game could figure out quickly and thus just wandered aimlessly, getting killed by wildlife they didn't know the name of ("wow! Those stupid potato things killed me?" "Yeah, if you fall into a heard of Mammoth Birds they'll shock you down fast.") and just following the monster in a straight line behind him instead of trying to cut it off. The game is pitiful now, but once it was the golden calf I'd pray to every day. Today, it's nothing but a sick cult.

When the game cost money to purchase, you generally found people more willing to learn how to play and take things seriously. When the game switched to free-to-play however- as with all things- the shitters roll in and out every 5 minutes because there's no investment.

Because of the increase in shitters you're gonna have situations arise when trappers are awful players that have no desire to learn how to play, and the game is impossible to win for the hunters and a no-fun steamroll for the monster to just evolve and smash ass

I had a lot of fun with Evolve Stage 2 but the amount of cunts it was teeming with made all-class domes nescessary. You can win with a shit medic, assault, trapper or support if everyone else pulls their weight, but delegating all dome responsibility to one shit player is too much for a F2P audience

Those same developers, working on their dream game for a publishing company called 2k. The publisher pushed a large emphasis on graphics, pushed them into making it for competitive play, and demanded that it have some kind of DLC. So they did, but the developers didn't want to separate the fanbase based on what DLC they had so all maps were free, you could play with and as hunters/monsters you didn't have yet via unlock or later DLC. I'll give you that about L4D3, it was pretty heavily rumored, but most thought it'd come out or be teased again by valve at E3, but still nothing. So, yeah probably.

The reason for declining Valve South was because they were working on a game called "Metamorphosis" for THQ, but when that company went bankrupt it sold the right to the game to 2K where it became Evolve. The game was fairly close to being released upon the THQ bankruptcy and when the got to 2K they pretty much had to make the game from the ground up on the Unreal engine.

And if you didn't like L4D2 (which was simply just a better version of the first) I don't know why you'd even give a shit about Evolve. Like, what did this game do to you to make you blindly despise it so much? L4D or Evolve, I don't care.

Why do you think so many people are leaving Valve? They're an awful company that stifles it's workforce.

Metamorphasis was initially under develop under the Valve, then TRS tried to go independant. It didn't work, so they went into bankrupy themselves. THQ came along and thought "well, we'll pick you up and help you out with this game, maybe it can get us out of this jam" while they themselves were bankrupt. THQ went under before the game was done, 2k then outbid TRS a ludicrous 11 million to TRS's 250k. The only reason the game did not end up WORSE due to being rushed out the door in a year of purchase, was because THQ already had the contract, and the contract went already with the development.

L4D2 was more of the same, monotonous zombie shooter going from point A to point B with a lot of un-nessasary new additions that horribly threw the game dynamics of L4D1 out the window.

I cared about Evolve because of what it was. Not the developer. Not the publisher. Not even the fucking marketing. I saw a game where it was a bunch of players up against a player-controlled boss, and I was playing a lot of Saxton Hale on TF2 at the time, dealing with a court situation, and even looking for a game to evacuate TF2's rotting corpse for. Evolve WAS that game.

There's sort of the problem. They utterly gutted the game in transition to F2P. There was at least TWENTY maps and four-five-six gamemodes. F2P only had 4 maps and 1 mode. And they were bastardized versions of the originals, forcing Flee-Til-3 regardless.

The only thing that Stage 2 did right was the non-gameplay parts. The new tutorials and shit? Good. The hunter skins? About fucking time.

Butchering the top-tier gameplay with extreme learning curve? UTTER FUCKING HERESY.

I Got Evolve during the Free Weekend event that was.
And after trying it liked it, and got the complete edition with the season pass for I think was 40 bucks.

Played it mostly alone, Tried to play 2 matches online, and it was to brutal to play with people that really knew what they were doing.

But I spend most of my time playing alone with all the diferent modes.

During the F2P Time, I felt more confortable Playing multiplayer, no matter If we won or loose. it was fune, and most of the time i got why we lost.

But just people couldnt get it.

And My guess is that the franchise was a complete failure, so We are not going to see anything else ever again involving evolve...

Except maybe if they make a game called evolve and have nothing to do with evolve (bethesda did with prey)

At launch it was allowed. Happened a ton where a team would all go Tracer or whatever. Usually all you had to do was pick a counter and all go that. Developers were talking that, yeah it wasn't hard to fight a team all going the same, because you could all go counters, but it wasn't fun to do that and most matches would just end up normal anyway. Big part of the early meta was two lucios, one on heals the other on speed ALWAYS. Two Soldiers was also a good strategy. Though, if you want to play like that there's an arcade mode called No Limits. Regular game, but no limit of stacking. Plus, you'll get three crates after nine wins (and probably another three just for playing). Unlike MOBAs switching characters mid game is actually a strategy.

I remember during the devstreams they talked about how with a certain set up on a Hunter or Monster at the start you could pretty much just be like, "Yep, were' gonna win" the second it showed what was in the fight and that there were too many weapons and monster talents to make the game feel balanced, but I still would prefer custom character kits.

Example, Overwatch teach players "dying is okay, your team will loose some time, but you just respawn and regroup"

In games like evolve... Dying is a huge handicap for the team, specially of who died, and monster just have 1 life.

And people couldnt get this because alot of other games their mechanics are made so there isnt much of a problem with players being dumb and dying.

Even Left 4 dead had an easier approche to this, because Zombies where doing progress no matter how many times they die, they have infinite respawns.

Evolve was just doing its own thing, and probably there will never be other for a time...
The most similar thing I can think of is Depth....

Evolve wasn't really a bad game, but it missed that vital 10% for the hunters to make it really worth while. It is pretty balanced in its current state, but it's just way less fun to play as a hunter than as a monster, and that's a pretty big problem.

Many wanted to play the monster but this was randomized. The entire esports angle is unbalanced because half the time there would have been 3 people sitting on their hands while one was having all the fun.

The idea of the monster starts weak but grows strong means that the monster player must either create a situation where he can deal damage to the hunters early on or flee until he gets strong enough to face them and snowball. Which is not conducive to a fun game to play or watch for anyone that is not the monster.

And spare me the retarded notion this game could have been good if they had let them do the thing.
