I've come to a conclusion about Bethesda's Fallout games that really defines why they're fuck.

Fallout 1 was the soonest after the war, there's very little civilization and everyone is pretty much keeping to themselves.
Shit's real bad, and the Master's whole plan is a suggestion that maybe humanity should just give in to the wasteland instead of scraping themselves up off the floor.
But the budding societies and hopes going on even in tiny towns like Shady Sands are proof that they can do it on their own.

Fallout 2 things are getting a little better, tribes are developing and there's more of a social ecosystem. Nobody's stuck in a bubble anymore.
The threat of the Enclave is a reversal of the Master, like a refusal to accept the wasteland as a part of humanity's future and an attempt at returning to "normalcy" in a world which is starting to mirror early society.
Supermutants aren't slaves to the Master anymore, and there's more intelligent ghouls around. The proof that the Enclave are wrong is littered all over the place.

Fallout 3 is about BUHHHHH ENCLAVE STILL BAD EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BASICALLY ALREADY WIPED OUT, SUPERMUTANTS BAD AGAIN, 90% OF GHOULS ARE RAVENOUS BEASTS, BROTHERHOOD GOOD GUYS.

There are only like 3 or 4 copses in the mojave that have been altered to imply "rape" and by imply i mean just a naked corpse with a few cuts and bruises. The cages aren't optional (they should be) but that is by far the only annoying thing in the mod that isn't optional.

Most of what it does is just alter faces of potato npc faces or change them for the better.
it also adds injuries and alters corpses to most of the things you would think it would need.
i.e. Making the corpses at nellis reflect their injuries from fighting ants and the injured in the infirmary reflect their wounds as well

Freeside is a dangerous place and the Kings only keep the peace by being the biggest gang in the area, who will absolutely start fighting anyone else who tries to muscle in on their territory. But they don't police it, you can still get raped, mugged or murdered by anyone on the streets and the Kings wont give a shit.

Westside was also doing pretty poorly until Tom Anderson started stealing water from the NCR pipeline, allowing their crops to thrive. As part of Outer Vegas, Fiends are a constant problem for them. It's just that the Fiends are more interested in the area around their Vault and McCarran that heading up north.

Goodsprings does well because it's off the road, with little to attract travellers or raiders. Primm got fucked by the Powder Gangers when they rolled into town. Novac is a dump that no one really gives a shit about and relies too much on the scrap trade and water merchants to keep it going.

I understand having a mixed reputation is more realistic but I feel like the game or the next fallout to have reputation would be more enjoyable if reputation was just linear and worked kinda like this:

Idolized: Gain large favors (safeouse etc) as well as significantly impactful dialogue options that shape the way the player interacts with quests and the world
Liked: Gain small favors like reduced prices, misc and ammo items, etc

I convinced a friend to stay the fuck away from 4 and play NV instead but I'm facing a dilemma. Is there any reason to buy the game now? I don't want to give money to Bethesda, but if a dime goes to Obsidian, I'd buy it.

Ahh well if I'm remembering correctly in DA:O you can only boost your companions affinity by actually talking to them and the decisions you make with them present, or giving them gifts they like. Instead of "do x enough, then give them the D" you actually have to interact with them in some way.

I'm having fun on my new gun-slinging build. I just hate how I feel energy weapons are the way to go later on in levels and I just stay away from them now at all costs. They do give a lot of caps though.
