What's /v/'s thoughts on the franchise? Was it good? Was it bad? We can we learn from it?
>>
>>381086576
Scott is a fool, he has been innactive for too long and now the fire died.
>>
>>381086576
>We can we learn from it?

Youtubers/streamers can make your game successful
>>
>>381086678
How about the games? Were they well-made?
>>
>>381086576
if im gonna honest the while the series doesn't have much to offer gameplay wise the atmosphere of the first game is pretty good and sets the mood well. Everything past that is shit though.
>>
>>381086764
Dunno, that is matter of opinion and they are
>OPINIONS
>>
>>381086576
It blew up and became popular so it was dismissed by a lot of people.
I think it's interesting, and I hoped for it to be the game/series to bring back prerendered graphics, but it didn't.
>>
I unironicaly like the lore and the setting, I'm not easily frightened by a game but something about the animatronics really is frightening. Too bad the games are so simple... Sister's location was a big step forward...

The fanbase is full of obnoxious faggots and furry thought...
>>
>>381086987
Okay, what's your opinions on it?
>>
>>381086678
I don't think it's his fault necessarily that they basically have to rewrite the movie essentially.
>>
1 n 2 were good n the rest is shit

Some fanmades were good
>>
>>381086576
He took what are normally development iterations of a full game and monetized each one.
I don't like the precedent this sets, that the best approach is to churn out game after game while you're still a fad.
I miss when the aim of developers was to make a lasting legacy, these games will be utterly forgotten in a year or two if they aren't already.

/v/ really really REALLY needs to stop acting like ripping off little kids is a perfectly acceptable thing to do.
Scott's scummy as fuck, and the fact that he's disappearing off into the night now that the FNAF hype has died down only proves it.
A true dev would continue to make games for the love of it instead of cashing out immediately after their first hit.
>>
>>381087941
Anon wasn't saying Scott is a good man, but that he's a intelligent enough make the most of the hype.

>>
>>381086576
To be fair, the kind of storytelling behind the games is great, but its problem is that its stretched over 5 games that are basicly all the same.
>>
>>381086576
The games started going downhill after 2, and even the first two were okay at best. It's definitely worth looking at since there could be a theoretical formula for success here.

>One, it's youtuber bait (free advertising and appealing to a young demographic)
>Two, it has edgy stuff in it (the kids and autismos love that)
>Three, it has goofy/cartoony things having edgy stuff in it (kids and autismos also love it, shadow the hedgehog didn't just fall out of the sky)
>Four, the convoluted/hidden lore elements/puzzles produce intrigue through "deeper meaning," having players/youtubers go on scavenger hunts for secrets, and fan theories. It should be noted that the secrets and bits of info are enough in the middle of the "no effort to maximum effort" spectrum for information to be uncovered at a reasonable rate, make it look complex/deep to kids, and require a moderate amount of effort at most.
>Five, the previously mentioned secrets and the unfinished/unresolved plot provided enough reason to make sequels, while also allowing more focus to be put on the other qualities of the games' other qualities
>Six, while I doubt that it was actually meant to be an ARG instead of just a method of communication to the game's fans, some people could consider Scott's website and how he used it a very casual ARG
>Seven, the game is in a format that doesn't require as much work or skill as other kinds of games (for example, because of how the animatronics move and how the game works, animations for everything were not required)

Basically, wait until the trendy youtube gamer scene is ripe for appealing to dweeby internet kids

There's probably a bunch of stuff I'm missing, but it would probably take me forever to really figure this shit out since I'm a dumb fuck.
>>
Is the The Desolate Hope worth installing? I don't really care about the FNAF games but it seems interesting.
>>
>>381091089
Just to elaborate on this a little bit more, the third point also works because it's like "WOAH DUDE ITS EDGY AND COOL I BET YOU WERENT EXPECTING THAT ITS SO META"

Having furries probably really helps too, to pick up the slack of appealing mostly to children as opposed to autismos (see Sonic again)

>>
>>381087173
2 was easily the worst, Scott was on a high of "SOMETHING I MADE REACHED MAINSTREAM SUCCESS ASFHJAKSHGLKJAG" and shat it out in a few short weeks.

One's atmosphere is top tier and everything afterwards is kind of chasing it.

1=Sister Location>4=3>2

3 has the good idea of having you contend with one monster but it's not all that scary for the most part

4 does the same thing for the 'final boss' and it's genuinely kind of spooky with him constantly running from door to door
>>
>>381086576
>We can we learn from it?
The dangers of making too many sequels too fast. It was a nice surprise the second one came out so fast, but Scott really should have taken his time and made the sequels more substantive, perhaps collaborate with a studio?. Either way, it was really interesting to observe from a meta standpoint.

I never finished the first one, it's just jump scares. What was brilliant about it was that it was basically the same format as Night Trap and other Sega FMV games and became a big financial success, as well as being a G-rated horror game. The whole thing is extremely low-budget but it worked so well.

The fandom is cancer, though.

He literally just announced a new game and there is still the new novel and movie that's coming out.

Speaking of the novel. Scott is basically going full H.P. Lovecraft now since the "Twisted" animatronics are a child's broken psyche taking physical form.

And yes, pic related is an official design.

One good thing FNAF has done for our society is unlocking the potential animatronics had in the horror genre.

It's because of FNAF that creepy animatronics have become recognized as a genre of monster and I honestly love that.

It really outlined the difference between a horror game and a haunted house game.

Back in my day, screamers were pranks we played on people. Now cucks are paying to get screamers thrown in their face

Overall it's bad, but the sequels hint at a few good or interesting elements that he squanders immensely.
The first game was genuinely good.
What we can learn is that shifting gears to target the Minecraft kids and theory autists is a bad fucking idea.

I just want him to make fucking Desolate Hope 2. You'd think with all the money he's made off FNAF he'd have a decent budget for it.

2 was where he first started making unneeded changes to the first game's story. Basically a teratoma of all the future problems the series would have, quality-wise.
The "Bite of 87" worked best as an ominous background event that was left to your imagination, but the developer went back and turned it into a critical lynchpin in the universe that set up the first game. He then introduces three other restaurants, another animatronic who's Robofurry God, and seven more dead children. The actual gameplay is pretty bad too, and almost unplayable at release with all the bugs. It abandons the first game's tension for throwing as much shit in your face as possible.

It's like Alien and Prometheus. Guy makes a good first installment, and goes senile in his follow-ups.
>>
>>381104749
I think it was a hint towards the novel or something. It was something extremely underwhelming.
>>
>>381086764
They are well made. It plays a lot on paranoia and patience along with energy management. It even subverted itself with an entry forcing youtubers to shut the fuck up and listen for audio cues. The lore is there for those that want to get into that, but it doesn't impede on the way it plays.
>>
>>381087941
>"It's about the music, maaaaaan!"
>>
>>381104749
He was going to make the entire series all into a brain-damaged child's dying dream, and began releasing teasers that hinted as such. Scott said he was "waiting for people to put the pieces together" to open the box, but in truth he was probably just waiting for everyone to agree on it being a dream, and to agree that it was a good idea, which thankfully didn't happen.

Were he to have gone through with the dream idea, the box probably would've been something that showed how the restaurant really was outside the dream, without any murders or ghost dindus.
>>
>>381097473

They were used as a failstate, which was fine.

An Australian CEO designed and built child-killing robots to fulfill his sexual fetishes, and possibly killed children himself.
In the books, he also designed animatronics that emit a hallucinogenic gas that makes you see them based on how you think of them. The protagonist is scared of them, so she sees them as monsters like the image shows. It's not anywhere close to being the dumbest part of the book.
I think the design isn't bad conceptually, but the artist is pretty shit at doing horror and just makes it look boring. If he got someone talented instead of picking the first fanartist off the street he probably would've had a better image.

I think Scott is secretly changing the games with every entry just to disprove Matpat. Matpat doesn't deserve to tell game devs that they're wrong just because he has 8 million + subscribers.
>>
>>381098329
speaking of matpat and game theory
>>
>>381111605
It's based off of your own mind, and thus two people won't see the animatronics the same way.
That's not how brains works, but Scott disagrees.
>>
>>381112472
>Game Theory: Bonnie is Buddy?
>>
>>381111806
You're actually right, though to a more general extent. Adding in multiple bites and changing the possible identities of various characters, stuff like that makes me think Scott goes out of his way to make the story not make sense, so people talk more about it. Instead of having a mysterious horror universe, he's going more for something that kids will keep talking about, and so nobody ever has a definitive answer on the story.
>>
>>381086896
Agreed, great concept, animatronics are pretty much untapped territory as far as horror goes. Gameplay is eh, and sequels killed it.
>>
I think putting a grand mystery that people will want to dig to the bottom of conflicts with the horror elements of the game.
