My personal damn top underrated games list:
Original War
Kohan: Immortal Sovereign/Ahriman's Gift
Waking Mars
Cryostasis
Vietcong
Knock-Knock
Miasmata
And while nowhere near the misappreciation that the above games got, it was still pretty sad to see two really good recent games - Shadow Warrior 2 and Prey completely failing to get the recognition they deserved.
Also, all Icepick Lodge games (with the exception of Cargo: Quest for Gravity, which was legitimately awful) are still not getting the reception and attention they deserve.

It's not like the writing wasn't built around cheap emotional tricks.
It had some nice moments but it was a pretty shit game overall.

>Icepick Lodge
FUCK yes. The Void and Pathologic are easily the best adventure games of the 2000s and among the best ever made.
>>381084673
Revisited this recently, if not for Soul Memory, ADP, and the horribly narrow level design, this game would've been way better. Then again though, I also read that DS2 was originally supposed to be much larger and much more ambitious, and the final product we got was the result of frankenstein'd scraps from what was actually originally a canceled DS2.
>>381080407
>the top is like a 24 hour flight to the bottom

>>381085015
>Better/worse?
Kohan 2 was one of the biggest fucking disappointments in all of my gaming memory. It was so god-damn worse than the original, at least as far as I'm concerned. It felt like a fucking Warcraft 3 clone with a small, insignificant gimmick of the squad system, instead of feeling like a proper large-scale strategy that Kohan 1 was.
That said, I did not play it for very long (it just so pissed me off that I stopped playing few hours in). And Kohan was undeniably a very flawed game too, a lot of issues, poor balance, lack of variety between fractions (especially before the Ahriman stand-alone came out). And of course it also looks dated from our perspective.
But I thought Kohan 1 was significantly better when it came to making you feel like a real lord rulling over real kingdoms and waging real wards, not just leader of a few skirmishes in an ugly american cartoon.
And yeah, Icepick Lodge Rules. Pathologic did set the damn bar for videogame storytelling so high no game has gotten even CLOSE yet.
Which is why it annoys me that it still does not get the recognition.
>>381085272
It's Chile, and it's more like 8.

This is the only correct answer.
Game was terribly critically panned, sold like shit, and was never talked about by any publication after or basically anywhere outside of /v/.
Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest is a close runner up, since AVGN shit on it originally as a joke when the real James Rofle likes the game, and it was a pretty damn good game for its time even if worse than the other games. If Castlevania I is Dark Souls, Castlevania II is Dark Souls II.
>>381085353
>>381085120
>>381084673
I don't think people think Dark Souls II is straight up bad, it's just a black sheep type of game.
Although, after playing through Dark Souls III several times going back to the clunky control and terrible rolling mechanics of II is really off-putting and the game feels unplayable. I don't have the same experience with I.
>>381085272
Stop skipping geography lessons, dumb child.
>>381086060
Dark Souls 2 is fine if you just want more of Souls like gameplay honestly, it might be the weakest of the games just due to some of the annoying aspects like ADP but it's still a lot better than most games that release.
At least the world wasn't as linear as DS3
>>381085989
>critically panned
Critics are noobs, they probably got rekt in the first stage.
>>381086060
I had the same problem going back to 2. It's hard returning to such loose movement and stiff combat.

>>381085449
>any country with a large navy could fuck their shit up with very few casualties.
What's stopping them?
>>381086174
I like linearity when done right. Progression is a lot more linear in Dark Souls III but the levels themselves aren't too linear until the end of the game. Either way, linear level design and progression is fine if done well, even if it's not like the first Dark Souls.
>Septerra Core
>Sacrifice
>Gunmetal
>Age of Wonders
>Freedom Force

>>381086060
I honestly love the game, but yeah, it does take some getting used to it again, though I find it to be more ''grounded''.

>>381086331
Cobre, and latinoamerica in general, we are very territorial.
>>381086174
Dark Souls 3 was alright though despite it's linearity. People like to shitpost immensely when comparing the 2 on both sides, but neither 2 or 3 were bad games. They just had largely different mechanical tunings.
It's all a matter of which one you preferred more. I still revisit all 3 games. 3 is my favorite just because of how refined the combat feels, and because some of the bosses are really fucking great.
>>381086531

>>381087167
>>381086796
>>381086796
Oh boy, here we go.
Yeah, go play REmake with alternate control scheme. We'll see how long till you come back, shifting your complaints from the tank controls to fixed camera angles because you prefer a control scheme that simply does not work with fixed camera angles as opposed to one made specifically for them.
I don't know why, but the game design and game feel was just so damn good and fun. The only issue was the sparse amount of maps and no sequel.
Game was great and I don't think we'll get anything like it again. I love Nintendo, but they killed NST and it would have been a great western team for Nintendo, like Retro Studios but another one. They could have filled some gaps in Nintendo's library
>>381087369
That had tank controls too
>>381087407
God Hand dies not have tank controls. This complaint is akin to the camera complaint. It's from people who only played a very little bit of it.

>>381087407
It took me 5 maybe 10 minutes to learn tank controls as a kid.
People like you must have played the game 5 minutes, couldn't handle having to learn something, and then quit so you could come here and complain about them.
>>381087535
wait. How can there even BE a confusion about whenever a game has tank controls or not?
Like: the camera thing, I can sorta understand. it sounds mostly like a fucking excuse but OK, fair enough I can believe there might be some nuance to it or the handling simply improves over time through say - better use of geometry later into the game.
But tank controls are tank controls. That is not a matter of how you feel: that is very precisely defined. Playing the game for a fucking MINUTE or hundred hours does not actually change anything about control scheme being tank or not.
I haven't played the game so I don't know who is right and who is not, but it utterly confuses me how can anyone claim that the amount of time spent on a game matters to identification of it's control scheme.

>>381087747
>I haven't played the gam
Enough said.
>>381088091
No, not even slightely. When ever I played it or not is actually entirely irrelevant.
DOES THE GAME HAVE TANK CONTROLS OR NOT.
In other words: is the movement input relevant to camera, or character orientation. There is no other possibility.
You can argue that the tank controls benefit the game once you get used to them.
Or you can argue that the game does NOT have tank controls.
You can't argue that people somehow think it has tank controls at first but after a time it stops being tank control: unless you literally CHANGE A CONTROL SCHEME mid-fucking-game.
So which is it?
