Rocket League is dynamic 4k on pro. Psyonix said they have a lock on boneX. Major resolution differences likely won't appear till more third party games are announced. Deck 13 said The Surge's 60fps mode is higher rez on boneX than PS4 pro and 30fps is locked 4k.

1080P 60FPS is attainable on the Xbone X, but most developers choose not to go that route. 4K is a better selling point for normies and is a lot easier to accomplish than keeping a solid 60 frames, especially in open world games like Assassin's Creed. If you have a problem with games being locked to 30fps then take it up with the devs, not Microsoft.

It's not, your rendering resolution only has to be as large as your screen's native resolution (something consoles don't usually do).
But at this point everybody has a 1080p screen and 95% are perfectly happy with it, so manufacturers had to come up with something to motivate people into buying new ones.
Sony and MS are only riding the 4k craze even though they can't produce stable performance at 1080p most of the time.
