I get some kind of dx11 driver error with a box that looks like it lists a bunch of drivers. Its happened a couple of times before, but not during anything important. What do I do.

I think a lot of people would. There's only so much you can do in FFXIV. It's only been three days and some people are already level 70 on RDM and SAM, even with all the endless disconnects.

A lot of people would switch over to DQX just because its a whole new game to play with three expansions worth of content. Would last at least a month. And based on my research, there's a lot more to do than just crafting and raiding in the end game.

The game went from under 300,000 players a day to well over 700,000 before Stormblood hit. So at the very least, it got old players to come back. Which is all they care about. A game like this makes money even if only 100,000 people are subbed. Getting up near a million, even if those people only sub for one month, means the game has already made more money than FFXV will in its lifetime. In just one month.

And with the servers constantly going down, people will play even longer. They won't just get through the content in 2 days. They'll have to play at least a week.

No class is bad. The game is made so every class can complete any content. The only people who get mad are min/max idiots who want to do extreme raids. And the real skill just comes from memorizing patterns of cones/aoes.

Healers do have a little more pressure put on them. But the real pressure is on Tanks. They have to do pretty much everything in a dungeon or instance aside from the final LB and a few adds.

You can however point out that an online game focused on story should be designed so that there isn't a massive glitch when trying to contact a routing server. And there's tons of times in the game where you have to do 4-6 cutscenes in a row. If just one of those fails, you're fucked.

Its a legitimate complaint. Especially when all this happened in the launch of 2.0 and is now repeating. They should have added more routing servers for this month to elevate the problem they knew would come. Instead, the fans are the ones who just have to deal with it until enough fans quit the game in frustration and the population evens out to its pre stormblood levels.

I'm playing the game now because they actually did add other ways to level besides just story quests. Getting through the story to unlock new areas and dungeons is the worst part of the game by far. But once you unlock everything, you can level a whole new class in a matter of days. Some people are already level 70 Red Mages and Samurai for christ sakes.

Honestly, I'd like an option to level off monsters better. The 200% bonus to EXP is nice and all, but leveling off monsters in the wild is still way too slow compared to dungeons. They should remove EXP gained from quests and just increase EXP from enemies by a factor of 10. But this would anger 90% of players who just want to warp through the story content and then quit the game.

No, they did it because every other themepark MMO since WoW did it. And this game is specifically made for people to solo. You're literally forced to solo story quests and everything besides dungeons/primals. Which means you're playing solo for 90% of the game. This is also why people suck so much in dungeons. They never learn how to play in a group until after they're in the dungeon. Even if you want to be in a party, it forces you to leave all the time because story quests and cutscenes have to be done alone.

This is the time frame that all the returning and new players are going to base their expectations on, though. If you're someone who just picked up the game because you keep hearing about how good the story is, why would you keep playing when you can't progress the story at all because you every time you click on a tree stump you get disconnected? This is an absolutely horrible first impression. Some of them might think that they'll just come back in a week or so when things have calmed down, but how many of them actually will? I would wager less than a third. And of that third, how many are going to keep levelling to 30, given how boring the early game is?

I'm enjoying Heavensward more than ARR, but its hardly an amazing story. NPCs still rattle on insistently and makes me want to skip cutscenes. 3/4 the story is just elves (which every single one has to do that 10 second bowing animation). Still tons of shitty dialects everywhere. And if you listen to the Japanese audio (and know some Japanese), you can tell the translation is so off its comical.

I don't know, I love this game for everything but the story. Yes Heavensward is better than ARR, but its still a 5/10 at best when it comes to story.

Since I'm on the free trial and SB drops in a couple days I've been leveling all the classes I can to 35. So far I've done WAR, PLD, DRG, SCH/SMN, and I just unlocked WHM. So far my favorites are PLD and WHM, both of these classes have provided an interesting playstyle that makes them more enjoyable that the others. Honorable mention to DRG for having really cool animations.

I was surprised to find that CNJ/WHM has been more fun to play than SCH, since I have to focus on healing and damage at the same time without having the faerie as a crutch. Will I be making a mistake by making WHM my main healer?

Well yes the story sucks. But it always sucked. A lot of the problems are linked to the base game engine and how cutscenes load into a seperate instance (the problem everyone is having right now). So an expansion wasn't really going to fix this. They'd need a whole new game engine.

From the standpoint of gameplay, dungeons and content, they have improved. Not as far as I'd like, but still enough to warrant playing it. They need to make more dungeons like PotD with different themes. Dragon Quest X has dungeons like PotD, but each one ties to a previous DQ game. Like one dungeon will be a cave and you fight all the enemies from Dragon Quest I in that cave, finishing with the Green Dragon. FFXIV should be doing the same thing with past FF games. A dungeon where you travel through a cave (FFIII), on the moon (FFIV), in an opera house (FFVI), through Midgar (FFVII), in a Garden (FFVIII), etc. People would run those things forever.

I don't know what's giving you these impressions, PLD and WHM are like the most boring choices in their respective roles. But at least PLD sounds like it will get a lot better at 70. WHM is going to be the same super basic flat heals based job forever though. If you want the most fun jobs possible I suggest astrologian or scholar. I personally think AST is great because having a bunch of useful buffs I can play around with makes me feel like more of an actual support instead of just a straight up healer.

SCH has added complexity just because you'll also have a pet to manage. The fairy is pretty powerful at low levels and can practically solo heal dungeon but at higher levels you definitely wont be seeing it as a crutch anymore.

I'm a DRG and I use macros. No one has ever called me out on it though because I still out damage other players. Also, the game isn't that hard after you memorize the cones. I'd rather have my rotation on a macro and free my fingers up for dodging than fumble with two rows of hotkeys.

Most of the dungeons are original, just with noted FF enemies in there. And even then, half the dungeons have FFXIV specific enemies. Yeah you have a Tonberry or Malboro dungeon. But it's not based on the location of any past FF game. And they probably shouldn't be.

But they could also add in nostalgia focused dungeons that are optional. Or just release Dragon Quest X so I can play those.
