Back in 2007 I think it was, I had a nice fleet of destroyers on an account I made right when a universe started, but it all got wrecked by an autist who I assume was using an automated browser script that somehow had gotten to a few dozen of the big fucks. Can't remember their names.

Yes, Ogame is very time consuming and forces you to be on guard as much as possible. If you idle for too many hours, you can get your whole fleet destroyed by another player.
Although I don't think this is good design by any means, the feeling of constant paranoia is a key feature.

I think it's a good design if that is what you want the players to feel, kind of like old school runescape wilderness
