What is up with Capcom and Nintendo, lately?
>Releases overpriced version of SFII. Only real incentive is to try out the poorly received "Way of the Hado" mode.
>Megaman Legacy collection 2 on everything except Nintendo consoles. Not even 3DS.
>Disney afternoon collection on everything except Nintendo consoles. This is especially strange considering all of the games in that collection originated on NES.
>Apparently no plans on a Monster Hunter XX localization. Perfect chance for a dual release in the west and they skipped out on it.

Sure, they suggested more RAM for the Switch specifically for the RE engine which Nintendo listened and followed up on. However; at this point, what are the chances of an RE game announcement for the Switch with all this stuff going on? I'm not gonna claim I know what goes on in either companies offices, but this is a little weird. I don't want to believe they were that offended only one Treehouse member wasn't an absolute scrub at SFII.

Console warriors and wojak posters need not apply, btw. I'm hoping for some actual discussion on this subject.
>>
>>381044327
The guy who leaked MHW already confirmed that work has begun on a new Switch Monster Hunter game by the XX team. I doubt we will see it localized though as MHW is Capcoms attempt at an "a game as a platform" version of Monster Hunter in the west.
>>
>>381044327
>Perfect chance for a dual release in the west and they skipped out on it.

OP here, by "dual release" I meant 3DS and Switch rather than regions. My bad.

>>381044518
Despite all this, I will be enjoying MHW when that eventually releases.
>>
>>381044327
Id assume that that not so experienced team working on some biggish Switch project. Possibly not even for release but to learn how it works and make it do the shit they want it to do the most efficient way possible.
>>
>>381044518
You mean the same Babydick little bicyh who said MHW wouldn't have times missions? And it would be Completely open world? And it would have significantly less monsters? And it wouldn't have all the weapons?
>>
>>381044327
Nintendo is still pissy about the gamecube incident.

Honestly as long as they don't go full jew with it, this sounds actually kind of great.

Monhun always had an MMO kind of feel to it, so reasonably priced (key word here REASONABLY) and / or free MMO-style content update packs/expansions would be pretty fucking sick.

The Capcom Five are five video games unveiled by Capcom in late 2002 and published from March 2003. At a time when Nintendo's GameCube console had failed to capture market share, Capcom announced five new GameCube titles with the apparent goal of boosting hardware sales and showing off third-party developer support. Capcom USA followed up with confirmation that they would be exclusive to the GameCube. The five games were P.N.03, a futuristic third-person shooter; Viewtiful Joe, a side-scrolling action-platformer; Dead Phoenix, a shoot 'em up; Resident Evil 4, a survival horror third-person shooter; and Killer7, an action-adventure game with first-person shooter elements. Though not directly related to each other, they were all overseen by Resident Evil director Shinji Mikami and, except Killer7, developed by Capcom's Production Studio 4. Capcom USA later clarified that only Resident Evil 4 was intended to be exclusive; the initial announcement was due to a miscommunication with their parent company.

No, a different guy on Neogaf.
>>
>>381044327
>Monster Hunter XX localization
This makes sense, as they don't want to steal thunder from the next mainline game, by splitting the userbase.

The other stuff are mostly ports and probably outsourced to devs that don't have a lot of experience with the switch and would cost extra as well as time. These types of things are more a keep the lights on type of project, rather than a proper showing of support, so cost minimization is incredibly important.
>>
>>381045848
>he visits ""the gaf""
Go back.
>>
They want to rebrand Monster Hunter as a home console game, thus making it more popular in the west and think that releasing a game on the Switch will confuse consumers.

They also probably expected the Switch to flop and thus didn't want to have to bother making games for it. However it's now doing well so they're caught with their pants down.
>>
>>381045846
Oh, that. Dead Phoenix didn't even come out, yeah?

RE4 for Switch when?
>>
Out of all the 3rd parties that have been iffy on Switch support, Capcom is the most bizarre.

For example, they have MT Framework up and running on the Switch but they dont port over USF4 or UMvC3?
>>
>>381046310
No :^)
>>
>>381046386
Why should they? To take away presence from an already weak SFV? And last I check they no longer have the license for UMvC3, they negotiate on a per title basis and having infinity doesn't give them 3.
>>
>>381046386
Capcom doesn't want to make games for the Switch. It's anyone's guess as to why, but previously when asked about Switch support they said they'd base it on how well USF2 did.
>>
>>381044327
Been like this before the gamecube,
>>
>>381046121
>they don't want to steal thunder from the next mainline game

I can live with that explanation. Both games are different enough to push aside such a concern in my opinion.

As for the ports, well that's a solid reason as well. One thing about the Switch was how apparently easy it is to develop for or port to. Especially for UE4 powered games. Even so, more time is more money.
>>
How is USF2 selling, anyway? Those "online editions" of all those fighters they did last gen nosedived fast.
>>
>>381046674
>but previously when asked about Switch support they said they'd base it on how well USF2 did.

oh i am a laffin. If this is true, I guess we can stop dreaming about an RE7 port or anything else for that matter.

>>
>>381047320
Didn't they do the same thing with the re mercenaries for the 3ds? I don't think that worked.
>>
>>381045846
In the end, Dead Phoenix never released, Viewtiful Joe and Killer7 got PS2 versions (also Viewtiful Joe's PS2 port had exclusive content), Resident Evil 4 got ported to every system known to man (including the extremely obscure Zeebo), and the only game to remain exclusive was the mediocre P.N.03.
>>
is it over? can i finally stop buying monster hunter games and just play the ones i have forever
>>
>>381048740
They also did the same thing with Darkstalkers anniversary.
Capcom wants to hold IPs hostage and see how much they can get for ransom.
>>
>>381047117
If you want RE7 you'll probably have to get it on any number of platforms. The game itself is 50gb or so as well so I dont see how they'll even get that running on the Switch
>>
>>381047320
What's the logic behind this?
>We'll support the system if a good portion of the userbase is willing to buy a game they most likely already have multiple versions of.

Might as well throw in RE4 at that point.
>>
>>381050781
>We don't actually want to support this system, but we have to make some sort of statement to make it sound like we tried.
>>
Capcom treated sony like shit for years, its only fair nintendo gets it now.
>>
>>381051159
NuCapcom treats everyone like shit. Something happened after the iron man numbers of re4 that made them go full greed with zero foresight. I'm going to assume it was investors getting heavily involved and ingrained into projects that's just a norm there now.
>>
>>381051664
Okamoto left as creative head of the games division.
>>
>>381050738
Oh don't get me wrong. I own RE7 on PS4. It'd be cool if a game like that had a Switch version. As for file size, knowing Capcom, perhaps they'd just make they're own gamecart and charge $10 extra like they did for Revelations on the 3DS. Now I'm seeing why an RE7 port may not be a good idea after all.

Rainway will help me play RE7 in bed eventually.
>>
>>381050781
I'd buy portable RE4 with the option to play with gyro aiming.
>>
>>381051012
That's pretty much what every publisher has ever said about Nintendo consoles.
>>
>>381051012
This.

I imagine the real reason USFII was so lazy was for Capcom to try and create a scapegoat to justify not supporting the console.
>>
>>381044327
MHXX isn't coming out until after MH5 drops. Why would they split the sales when they can just hold one title back a few months?

All things considered Capcom is a pretty garbage company and their recent good games like DD and RE7 are exceptions, not the rules.
>>
>>381044327
You forgot the part where the legacy collection doesn't even include Megaman & Bass.
>>
>>381053216
DD isn't even a complete game, itsuno had to cut a bunch of content to get it out the door. Capcom didn't bother to finish it and ran off to make an pseudo mmo with the remains.
>>
>>381046320
>They also probably expected the Switch to flop and thus didn't want to have to bother making games for it. However it's now doing well so they're caught with their pants down.

Why is this going to be a common story for a lot of 3rd part developers?
>>
This and the shit that went down with the GC is going to bite Crapcom in the ass one day

By the end of the year when the Switch sells its 10 million, then Capcom will start making more stuff for Nintendo, I'm sure.
>>
>>381054738
I hope they do reach that 10mil by the end of the year. Not just because I'm a fan, but because Nintendo are the ones that have been in hot water the most as of late. Catching a big break with this console will bring about even more good things anyway.

That latest Mario trailer would've made Iwata proud.
>>
>>381054738
>10 million
Nintendo's under such demand that they decided to up production to 20 mil by next March, I'd expect at least 15 million sales by the end of December with their holiday bump.
>>
>>381055025
I'm excited for that new Kirby game. I'm glad they're bringing back ability combinations like in 64.
After the Wii U, Nintendo deserves a break.
>>
>>381054738
Could they make an MMX9? It's been so long.
>>
>>381054738
i dont think so mate. capcom hasnt been doing well in last year sales now.

MH:W will see profits in PC and capcom will see that PC is the future.

>profits on PC
>most Japanese games can't break 1 million on PC
>MHW took 4 years to develop and will likely need to sell 5+ million recoup costs on top of possible marketing materials
>They will totally sell a shitload on PC, the smallest market of buyers for Japanese games

Considering that MHW isn't coming to PC in Japan and will likely sell only around 1 million there, and that it'll fail to break 2 million in the West, I highly doubt Capcom will see PC as a profitable market, much less see MHW being profitable at all. NIER:A and Purse Owner 5 still have not broken 2 million worldwide. These games don't need to because dev costs are lower, unlike MHW.

I have always said a Switch will be a repeat of the WiiU. Nobody wants to jump into the newfangled nintendo console and once someone finally decides to make a game the sales of Switch will already grind to a halt due to the self fulfilling prophecy of lack of 3rd party support. And no, indie games and whatever nintendo throws money at like Xenoblade or stuff hardly counts as "support".
