Exclusives lead to variety because studios and console manufacturers aim to create a loyal playerbase. Take the PS1 vs the N64: you got the former for rpgs and the latter for platformers. Since these games are limited to one console, developers have to be creative in order to stand out among the competition, especially when the competition develops games of a similar genre.
Now look at today when exclusives are on the decline. Developers don't feel that they have to be creative because they have a wider audience now. Even if some people are smart enough to see their game as generic shit, there are more people now who will buy their games anyway. Notice how it's always PC cucks who bitch about exclusives like >>381028082
That's because they don't have any. I'm willing to bet that their entire catalog of games consists of indieshit and AAA trash. These are the people who constantly bemoan that 'gaming is dead.' Meanwhile, PS4 owners are happy playing Bloodborne and Yakuza, 3DS owners are happy playing their Fire Emblem and Pokemon games, and Switch owners are happy with Arms and Zelda. They each have their own niche that developers continue to cater to, meanwhile the pc cucks whine about AAA games and create petitions.

Exclusivity is specialisation, which game studios use to focus on to design better games from each iteration. Now game developers focus on sequels that branch sideways, or go fucking backwards.

Games require a higher technical degree and finesse to balance content free of bugs with scaling challenges in more complex worlds than before.

Just look at AI for fps games, do developers create better short term arenas and design attack behaviours to fully utilise the arena? It doesn't get done except for an old ass game like FEAR or a fucking slavic developer. The fps genre got very stale because they stopped difficulty of segments due to stupid shit like rechargeable health, eliminated weapon scarcity and pacing of firefights.

I want universal vidya. If I buy a game, I wanna play it on PC, i wanna play it on console, I wanna play it on my phone, I wanna play it on my friend's PC/console/phone, whether I have an internet connection or not. I wanna mod it, I wanna cheat in it, I wanna sell it, I wanna give it to a friend, to borrow or for keeps. Strictly as a consumer, I wanna be able to do everything I can think of with what I buy, and not let petty publisher politics get in my way.

Companies have the right to release their games to whatever the fuck system they want. Its their game.
For a third party, this means less sales, but it could also mean more funding.
For the console owner, its pretty fucking obvious that they wont make a quality game just to give to another system since they would be devaluing their own.
Its that simple. Same way the consumer has the right to choose which system he wants.
