Release order, don't skip games, original trilogy should be played on DS or 3DS, Apollo Justice has a phone port that looks fine, if you can't play that go for the DS version. Dual Destinies looks better on iOS but 3DS is fine too. Spirit of Justice on 3DS.
Investigations can be played after the third game and Investigations 2 has a fan translation, both of them are DS only.

I played Dual Destinies first and loved it so much that I went back and played the original trilogy plus Apollo Justice after. HOWEVER, after DD's way better graphics and superior mechanics (such as marking off already investigated places, a dialogue log, etc), I found it hard to enjoy the original trilogy as much as DD. First game also has major pacing problems and I'm not sure I would have played the rest of the series if that was my introduction to it.
Which is all to say, don't necessarily start at the first game.
