the cooperation and interaction of random people thrown together in one game server was the hallmark of halo's multiplayer. XBL has been shit ever since xbox live introduced party chat and stopped including microphones with every xbox live intro subscription or console.

halo 5's multiplayer does nothing new - warzone is a ripoff of titanfall and arena, while being the closest to the older halos, falls victim to the bullshit described above. not to mention microtransactions.

i think one of the greatest innovations to come out of the halo franchise was proximity voice in halo 2, and was a fun mechanic going into halo 3. people that are on consoles nowadays are all the worst autistic fucks to roam the earth because they're too retarded or too poor (because they're retarded and have no marketable skills) to build a PC. the real fun of online gaming was the random social encounters and the friends you would make. games across the board have jettisoned this element. even WoW has cut everything to the point of making it basically a single-player game.

halo 5 might be the best multiplayer shooter, mechanically, of this gen, but this gen is shit

I still play it from time to time, but it's by far not the best multiplayer shooter of this console gen.

I hate how some people will never check it out because they think it's too weird or "kiddy". Some of the most fun I've had in an online shooter since Kid Icarus: Uprising.

I think it's kind of cool that Titanfall at least looks more inspired than any CoD game, but I still just can't see how people find those games any fun. You die so quickly that it severely hinders the game. The odds of you actually being able to make a tactical retreat is so low. With Splatoon, Halo, Overwatch, etc., the games are so much more interesting because their gameplay mechanics give you many more gameplay options. Whereas in CoD, it's pretty much, "pick an assault rifle and make sure you spot the enemy before they spot you."

The death of Halo is easily explained if we look at how behaviour has changed after 360 gen and the advent of CoD Domination.

Party chat killed proxy chat and team work.

CoD maybe a team game, but it is not PLAYED like a team game. People go in by themselves trying to get the best KD of either team. They do not cooperate to achieve a score.

Halo was the opposite. Communication was key, the team winning was the goal. It's always nice to be on top, but it's better to win as a team.

CoD followed human behaviour, saw that communication was made easy between friends, and made a game that rewarded you for your singular efforts. Your team winning is never even a concern in CoD. You go in, you veg out, and you chat with your friends in other games.
