It actually has a useful purpose in proper hack and slash games like Bayo and the like. Helps with combos.

Most genres put it in just cause, though.

Recently I noticed in Forza 6, the controller's right trigger starts to rumble when you should change gears and whenever your car is starting to hit the edge of the road, the controller rumbles. It helps a lot when driving in that game. The more feedback you can get from the controller, the better.
