Agree fully, I want to be hyped for Odyssey, but the lack of fanfare and level-ending or fufillment from getting a moon just isn't there, It's "You got a moon" like any random collectible in BoTW, and thats it.

I understand that most people loathe Sunshine, but I grew up with it (20) and find Galaxy/Odyssey's level design overly game-y compared to Sunshine's more verticality/centralization. Then I think of levels like Rico Harbour and remember that they were game-y as well, but certainly to a less extent. Sunshine's levels seem to be much more compact/smaller, as opposed to Odyssey's more spread-out ness?

It seems to be suffering from the same kind of shit that Yoka Laylee does. It has these huge open worlds but lacks some actual direction and level design. In Yooka Laylee you have huge open spaces with a few platforming segments here and there that don't really connect together all to well and feel really fragmented and the same seems to be the case in Super Mario Odyssey. I really, really hope this game turns out well somehow

These seem way to common, you can't walk 2 meters without having the game hand one over to you. In SM64 or Sunshine you had to actually go through the level which changed everytime to get a single collectible, now they're all in the same place at the same time which means you have an incredibly small area for the moon to be in you just come in and collect it.
It's awful design.

I'm sorry but no, have you played 64 recently or are you basing everything off blind nostalgia? I literally played 3 months ago and i can see all the glaring flaws oddyssey has, mainly in control. If anything this game looks more like 3D world 2, or Galaxy 3, 64 didnt have 2D platforming segments, rolling, or that dynamic of a camera, the camera was mainly fixed except for some areas of the world you could rotate it freely. This game is far too fluid to be considered 64-2.

Also lets not kid ourselves, Giant open worlds only means less content. Sure the worlds are big, but that means that there will be less of them. Instead of 15 condensed worlds (all you need) You'll be getting 4-5 giant ones that you'll be bored of an hour later.

My biggest fear here however, is how they handle challenges, by selecting a star in 64, you plan to go for that star and that star alone, (Sure you can go for another iof you break the game, but thats not the point) but the level is crafted to get you to that star. Here moons are just there out in the open, Hell you probably dont even ened to do the challenges, if you could find a way to get over there, you probably negate that whole jaxio riding thing with a few timed jumps. It kills the whole point of the challenge.

All I'm saying is, this game seems TOO open, a platformer needs a sizeable, but easy to navigate space to paly in, you need to find your bearings, and figure out how to move on in it. this giant open world seems too much, and too sparse.

Yes, but BK maps are the quintessential directionless maps, is what I was trying to point out. They have a single thing, usually in the middle and the rest of the map has areas that jut off from that. Click Clock Wood is the perfect example of this. Giant tree in the center that you need to scale. Off to the sides are Mumbo, the giant flower/sunflower? And a bunch of other stuff that is escaping me. Or Rusty Bucket bay which has the giant ship in the middle you can explore any which way and then lots of shit to the sides. There is no path you are directed to. You are dropped into the world and given free reign to explore and collect everything. Anyone who ever claims BK has any sort of direction has never played the game.

You said your self that you don't care about gameplay. Most people play GAMES for the GAMEplay. People like Mario's GAMEplay. 3D Mario games give you a lot of control over your movement so it's fun to have a large world to jump around when it's so easy to move around. The worlds, music, and so on may be nice, but that's all just a bonus for the core gameplay.

So again, you're either not a fan of the gameplay which is why people play games. Or you don't like that they repeat elements between games which follows for any game series ever made and therefore isn't even a question.

The game looks decent enough. Some of the world's hubs are pretty vacant, but at least the little worlds inside had an overarching purpose, and had multiple moons to get.

It doesn't look like a system-seller for me personally, but it's definitely solid next to BotW and possibly Prime. I'm glad Nintendo is actually putting some effort into their games instead of the NSMB/3D World garbage.

The quality of the level design in this game seems really inconsistent. Like, I'm watching this and it seems pretty good and varied, and there's even some exploration going on, but for every video like this there's 10 others that make the game look like boring linear shit. I hope they don't fuck it up, I'll probably get a Switch if it comes out legit good, but I'm very skeptical and the rabid fanbase is pushing me away. I wound up getting a 3DS because everyone here said it was good and it wound up being the worst handheld Nintendo has ever made, in my eyes at least.
