/v/ is trying extremely hard lately to make it sound like this game actually bombed when it clearly hasn't. 77 on metacritic with no negative critical reviews, only positive to mixed with the majority being positive, with the only major game review site that gave it a lukewarm reception pretty much being Gamespot. Most other tech and game sites which aren't normally counted among metacritic scores are giving it a fair to very praised reviews. And the user rating score on metacritic continues to remain in the 8.6 range.

Even if people forget about the game a month from now when Splatoon 2 comes out, there's nothing to indicate anything other than this game being a success among critics and players./v/ of course can't accept that waggle controls are winning and just has to make up shit and turn threads into their echo chamber so they can feel like they "won" and what they say is actually relevant. Most of the games /v/ thinks are flops aren't and most of the games they think are shit most other players probably enjoy.

Honestly, I think fighting games could lighten up on the "story-rich" single player modes since it has never been essential to the genre and has always been handled better by tie in anime and manga/comics anyway since that media isn't crippled by having write itself around a form of gameplay that isn't designed well for that kind of storytelling

In the old days, if you wanted to know more about the lore of Street Fighter, you could only glean some bits off the stages and the character endings and reading the manual, or watch the street fighter animated movies and reading the comics. And I honestly prefer that to the attempts at storytelling in game that street fighter tries now. Some fighting games have done a much better job, like Blazblue. But a rich story mode is not essential
