Honestly? I think those were other times. He had more creative liberty, Squaresoft at the time was THE shit, so, yeah, I guess was a wild shot and experimentation that worked out at the end. To this fucking day I'm still sad about CD2, this game and Chrono Cross were something magical to me in my childhood.

Xenosaga was his only other attempt at telling a story, and it was just ruined by development issues. Namco bit off more than they could chew by giving him 6 games, so when the first one didn't perform up to expectations, they tried to make changes, which resulted in the mess that was episode 2 and the firing of Soraya Saga and rewriting of the script for episode 3.
Xenoblade was all about the world, story was an afterthought and it was written by a guy who had only written scenarios for anime before. I haven't played X.

Thanks, that really sums up the disaster xenosaga was. I understand Takahashi had ambitious plans but he could write one or two games and make something really profound with that. Even a VN.
It's been since saga 3 that no one has released a JRPG with really intense amazing plot and characters, deep philosphical topics thrown in etc.
