CB has something called guard points. If you switch from axe mode to swordnshield and viceversa you get a couple of frames at the end of the animation called "guard points". If you hit a monster with a guard point (think counter they attack) then you deal KO (stun) damage. If you hit them enough they will get stunned.

Alongside this the axe mode explosions also cause KO damage to the head.

As much as it sucks I get why Capcom isn't releasing XX here. To them World is them trying to rebrand the series so newcomers can jump on board. No numbering, no side ideas, just a simple selling of "this is the best way to start Monster Hunter." It's not that annoying understanding the drops. Even if you don't know what they mean you will recognize the characters for specific drops, and its not like you can't use any of the available databases and wikis online for further help which chances are you're already doing for other aspects of the game.

Switch Axe, I hope they take some time and rework it. As it stands just about the only time the axe mode has been useful lately is in XX with brave style otherwise you just end up in sword mode 99% of the time. Hope they make it more dynamic so you have a reason to switch back between both modes.

I've only started playing Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on Wii U.

I really like it, but I hate how slow progression is and there is like no bestiary that would at least as much as hint how to get certain items.

So far I really really dig the Great Sword. Sometimes for fun I would use Switch Axe, Katana and sword and shield. Though, I haven't been thinking about trying ranged weapons at all.

Why is no one talking about how god fucking awful the GS sounds in the leaked gameplay trailer

I fucking love SnS. Call me a scrub, but I've maimed the weapon since FU, and I have no intention of giving it up.

My favourite monster is easily Brachydios. His gear just looks too good to pass up.

Don't really have a favourite monster theme. I do have the theme for the whole franchise as my ringtone, though.

Favourite village is definitely Pokke. Too many memories of mine were made there.

As for best guild gal, 3U's Tanzia girl is top-tier.

Personally, I don't like the "realistic" approach when it comes to weapons. I'm aware blood effects are still in, but I didn't see shit in that leaked gameplay presentation.

It was the little things that helped make every attack so impactful and satisfying. Stuff most hunting clones fail to understand.

my first step into the monster hunter world was with tri on the Wii. I also started out with the bowgun, which was quite expensive and overwhelming with all the customization of each piece but extremely fun because of it. I noticed in tri ultimate on WiiU they seemed to have made the bowguns simple with no more customization. I hope they bring the three pieces back, it was a fun minigame to play as a gunner.

I'm a fan of Monster Hunter because of the weight, the way actions commit you to them and the monster/armour designs. None of these things are replicated in God Eater. So, if you're like me, you probably won't enjoy it.

Do you think MHW will have new weapons? Since they said that MHW is MH5 or whatever.

I also hope they change the visuals a bit, the game looks kinda desatured in comparison to MH3/4, and the monster they showed felt kinda uninspired (unless he is MHW's Great Jaggi or something).
