Yes, since the multi is shit I'd say it was worth like 35€ at launch.

Good oldschool FPS that wasn't killed by modernisation, the new mechanics like the glory kills are there to improve the gameplay. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that the enemies spawn when you enter a zone instead of just already being there.

But Titanfall 2 had a much better (but really short) campaign and actually great multiplayer, so I recommend getting that instead

I missed the Doom series growing up, but I hear it's great. Does the series live up to the hype?

Also, should I start with Doom one, or is there a better place to begin?

blame consoles for not being able to support more than 20 monsters at the same time.
also as a painkiller/ss clone it's by far the best one simply due to much more open ended maps than those two and combat that's more complex than "hold down s+a/d and spam mouse1"

don't upgrade then for some added difficulty. knowing id, the upgrades lowering the difficulty was probably intentional on their part to get the whole "fuck yeah doomguy/the player is badass rip and tear XD" feeling down pat.

It totally is. I pirated the game once you could pirate it. I enjoyed the living fuck out of it and I saw it boxed in a store for 10 Euros 2 months ago so I decided to buy it because WHY NOT I liked it. I still have it wrapped up and I am annoyed about the fact that I need to download everything from Steam. So I guess in the future I will also play my pirated copy because I've got all my files right there. I've played it online when it was free on Steam and that was somewhat fun. Maybe I will try that again some day. How are user generated maps coming along?

I am also impressed that such a new game is so cheap. Fucking old Max Payne 3 is still like 20 euros on Steam among other old games like LA Noir. Giving modern games away for such a low price is amazingly nice and I don't know any other modern game that's that cheap.

I sadly gave up playing it because I can not beat a boss which means that I am fucking stuck.

All the games are worth playing and brought something to the FPS genre, at least the first two. The third game is a serious sidestep from the series original tone and gameplay, but it isn't bad in any remarkable way. DOOM (2016) returns the series to gameplay that is more in line with the first and second. Play any of them and you'll see why people love them.

Good core gameplay brought down by every wrong creative choice possible.

At that price, sure.

Bad level design, vast majority of upgrades are useless or completely unnecessary, difficulty trivialized by enemies dropping metric fucktons of health and ammo as soon as you need it, area-contained battles like Painkiller, to name a few.

Hit them with a BFG round, then pelt them with rockets, they will drop health like crazy.

Also I really enjoyed the game a lot. It's only real downsides are the constant arenas in the late game and the weapons being fairly imbalanced (once you hit a set point all you need is the chain gun, the rocket launcher, the super shotgun, and the gauss rifle). Beyond that the game's a lot of fun. The BFG is crazy strong and satisfying to use, the enemies are some of the most fun enemies I've seen in an FPS, the weapon mods give more functionality to the guns (even if they're also poorly balanced), the fact that movement is a key to surviving and the game has 0 reloads is a goddamn miracle all things considered.

Definitely recommendable.
