Do you think porting between safe rooms originally wasn't the intent? It does feel like that, although the routes from the entrance to the treasure are pretty short in the 6th and 7th Palaces too. 5th Palace was the only one that would take a while to navigate without teleporting via safe rooms, which would doubly suck with the BS time limited battles afterwards.
