So what happened to VR? It's supposed to be the future of gayming, right? What are you VR bros playing right now with your $1000 VR headset?
>>
mostly VRChat, because being an anime girl and dabbing with other anime girls in real time with positionally tracked controllers and spatial audio is the fcking future
>>
different random shit. there's tons of weird short indie games on steam and itch.io. the difficulty becomes remembering what you have and haven't played.

it is still the future of gaming. this E3 was a crushing disappointment, mostly because of Bethesda fucking up so hard generally just for the sake of their carnival gimmick outdoor show. less than three minutes total spent on it, and no live demo. DOOM VFR live demo was supposed to be what changed minds.

Valve will have something new out this year. There is a decent chance they will formally reveal 2.0 hardware.
>>
>>380828840
failed gimmick technology that everyone who knew anything called it for 5 years ago

any developer worth their salt stayed 100 feet away from this shit

valve might be an exception but even then its a pretty big fuckup
>>
>>380828840

VR was suppose to be the future of gaming back in the 1980s. Look to the past to see what will happen in the future.
>>
>>380828840
Still not viable. Can't move if you are sitting down, need a big room if you want cameras to track you, lots of problems with vertigo, devs throwing up trying to test their own games. Hardware too expensive for games that ultimately aren't entertaining.

They have to solve the locomotion problem first, this will solve the vertigo problem and then you can convince someone to spend 600 bucks on a headset when it actually gives him the best looking game possible.
>>
>>380829723
Even PSVR can do locomotion. Look at RE7.
>>
>>380829404
>valve might be an exception but even then its a pretty big fuckup

Valve is smart. They didn't invest in shit they just pushed it along. They wanted someone to make it big so they could enjoy the new medium. Fact is sony couldn't even do jack shit so here we are

Bet the next half life was suppose to be on this thing. But you need the fucking big name games first to move them to begin with

Steam didn't fucking take off before half life or cs. What a dumbass. No one wants to commit
>>
>>380829404
>literally every major AAA dev doing something for VR
>literally every major tech company involved in some way
>literally every display manufacturing racing into made-for-VR displays
>over 1300 VR games on Steam

>any developer worth their salt stayed 100 feet away from this shit

Also, you look stupid playing it and have a huge device stuck to your face like an alien. It's all the fun of having a bipap sleep machine, but for your eyes!
>>
>>380829920
also military is investing heavily into vr. They have already developed VR headgear for pilots so that they can now "see through" the plane and have full situational awareness.

This alone is going to push the technology a lot further.
>>
>>380829723
not only do you have to get the 600 burger entrance fee, you also have to have the hardware to power it which doesn't make it look any better
>>
>>380828840
It's good for porn which can be enjoyed with a smartphone and google cardboard
>>
So palmer luckey is a smart fuck for selling out right? Talk about the best life decision. Sort of like notch selling minecraft

Cuckerberg must be reeling
>>
>>380830336
didn't he get kicked out for making memes
>>
Facebook ruined it with their faggotry and valve needs to release vive 2 with a better screen
>>
>tfw metro Exodus isn't for Vive

It would be the perfect vive game. I'd buy a better comp and Vive just to play it.
>>
>>380830336
>Sort of like notch selling minecraft
this wasn't a 'good life decision', this was the end of a spiral into depression, probably MK-induced. he was already completely liquid, selling Mojang was just a deliberate cutting off of his own potential futures, so that he could surrender to never accomplishing anything else again.

I don't want "better" I want to shoot laser gatling guns at flying aircraft carriers with spanish guitar serenading me while a collapsing space elevator threatens to crush civilization

Waiting for the second generation Vive so I can buy a first generation one for cheap. $800 is too much, man.
>>
>>380829864
>Bet the next half life was suppose to be on this thing.
It will be. The only question now is if that's actually HL3 or just a spinoff, and if it is HL3 whether there will also be a flat version or not.

Nobody wants to spend 400 dollars to strap a box to their face
>>
I want to buy one for porn but it's too niche right now. The only stuff that really exists is normalfag "riding POV" shit.
>>
>>380832291
Watching other people fuck in VR is a totally different experience than watching normal porn.
You genuinely feel like a cuck.
>>
>>380831469
SteamVR 2.0 is coming, but the problem for you (and possibly people trying to resell) is that it's going to be TOO superior to seriously consider passing up. Integrated wireless, modular design for display upgrades, compatibility with the new base stations which are going to be a fraction of the cost and capable of tons of stuff the originals just plain aren't. Basically early adopters have never gotten fucked harder, 'SteamVR 2.0' is the first real consumer release and 1.0 was all alpha hardware for devs and EXTREME enthusiasts.
>>
>>380832520
But I like voyeurism. It's only cuckolding if it's your girl.
>>
>>380832652
>'SteamVR 2.0' is the first real consumer release
it's going to be too expensive though
>>
>>380831797
would have to be primo box for me to pay 400 to strap it to my face.
>>
>>380832712
d-don't attract attention damn anon
>>
>>380832652
We'll see how it works out when it's released. The people who bought VR headsets have already put down a huge amount of money for it, so someone would have to be on an even higher level of enthusiasm to buy another headset. Will a bunch of new people come to VR if the tech is improved? I hope so. I want to see VR be successful but it just doesn't seem to have mainstream appeal.
>>
it's never ever going to take off until

>the price is reasonable
>there's one ACTUAL GOOD GAME

what about 2 boxes
>>
>>380832764

This. And not because of the headset. But for the hardware required to run it

I mean you got consolefags passing over psvr with their 250 buck ps4s. There's no winning in getting vr in consumers hands
