Why are Fallout 3 and New Vegas so much more fun and replayable

in new vegas' case: good writing and gameplay design
in 3's case: nostalgia goggles because 4 and 3 are the same game

it's still pretty fun to go back and explore. the mall, museums, underworld, national guard depot, vault tec hq, fort constantine etc.

fallout 3 atleast had some interesting quests and some settlements that had more thought put into them

bethesda purposefully put in radiant quests to normalize their shitty behavior and made towns barebones so the players would be forced to build their own

the amount of side-stories in Fallout 3 is mind blowing
i never found sidemissions as inmersive as the ones in fallout 3, with all the small stories written in notes and wierd places to find.
