It's a pretty hard quest too. You've got to hit Shattoto hard and then immediately hit the summon circles before they spawn too many enemies, aoe those to death, hit Shattoto hard again, beat another circle fast enough that it doesn't get to spawn a second golem, kill the first golem, and then finish of shattoto as she repeatedly casts flares at you until she dies.

Unless I'm missing something from my (limited) time with BRD, that's not how it works. Each song builds its own stacks of repertoire. Ballad stacks none, and instead just refreshes Bloodletter, a la River of Blood.

That said, I think the most effective rotation is to start with Wanderer's when you have Raging and Barrage up, try and go for as many Pitch Perfects as you can, and then switch to either Paeon or Ballad until you can get to Wanderer's again. The cooldowns line up pretty well. Pitch Perfect is actually ridiculous, so you want to make sure you capitalize on its potency.

I don't know if it's supposed to work with Barrage though; it uses up the buff, but it didn't seem to hit more than once. Might be a bug.

It's good but it feels really shitty to play when you log in and start at 60, because it basically feels like you're missing half your toolkit.

There's also a couple really heavy-handed and unjustified nerfs (Dark Passenger and Blood Price). DP is probably fucked but I hope that they at least partially revert the nerf to BP because they really went overboard with it.

The basic combo system is definitely more involved than it was before, despite all the "1 combo, ARR PLD" memery.

The 'busyness' of the class is a little lower now with the removal of some of its oGCDs, but not a LOT lower because you get so many more uses of Dark Arts, which is now pretty much a 140 potency oGCD with a 2 second cooldown.

You can feel that the class got a power boost even before you get Bloodspiller, thanks to potency increases, increased MP flow, and buffs to Dark Arts.

Grit is also now a REALLY good tank stance, to the point where I really think that having a DRK in Grit as your main-tank will be a big part of SB progression.

It didn't get the sloppy blowjob that PLD and AST got in Stormblood, but it definitely didn't get shit on like MNK, WAR, or WHM. I'd say that it's pretty close to what they did to DRG, where it starts off feeling kind of dumber and easier to play, but the buffs to raw power carry you through your early 60s, and as you get the new skills the class fills out again in a pretty interesting way.

In ARR, a healer dedicating to DPS could rival actual DPS jobs.

Both WHM and SCH dealt higher AoE damage than any other job besides BLM.

They fucking gutted the MP regeneration on Blood Price. It used to give you 40 MP Potency on a hit (353 MP at level 60), and they slashed it all the way down to 10 MP potency (so you only get 88 MP per hit at level 60).

I was perfectly fine with restricting it to Grit, assuming nothing else had changed about it, because you had the MP gain basically made up for by the removal of Darkside's MP drain, and because leaving it as a Grit-exclusive ability kind of implicitly raised the value of Grit as a tank stance, which is a good thing.

In its current state though, you could probably just remove BP from your hotbar entirely and you'd never really notice the difference. You need to be hit THIRTY-ONE TIMES under BP to generate enough MP to use a single DA Abyssal Drain.
