What is the point of racing games? Are they for poor people who can't afford these cars?
Depends on the kind of racing game.
Obviously stuff like Mario Kart, Sky Roads, Carmageddon, Kinetica, Death Rally, Grip, etc don't, as they are based around gameplay first.
But others like sims and simcades are based around branding, so yeah.
Just like fantasy shooters (Quake) or broshooters (CoD), fantasy sport games (Windjammers) or brosport games (Fifa).
The second type are aimed at people that aren't interested in video games per se, but rather live fantasies centered around specific popular events or brands.
gee mr.rich guy, show me your collection of centenario and one77 then, you are not a poorfag who can only afford a production porsche are you?

Simulator games like ArmA as well are for armchair Sargents

To expand on this:
If you changed the graphics and sound effects of games like Quake, Crazy Power Disk Perfect or Grid to the bare minimum for the game to be playable (change everything for plain color cubes, for example), they would still be fun and people would play them.
If you did the same to Fifa, Forza, Asetto Corsa or Arma and removed the popular brands nobody would play them.

Not so sure about that.
Largely because a fucking lot of the people playing are or were actual military.
There's nothing quite like getting told to return to formation by an actual German officer, while he is also trying to discipline the actual fucking middle eastern militia members of your squad for shooting the Jew. Again.
