Wow bump up to 1440p is really noticable.

If anyone wants sharper gaming without spending a fortune on 4k, I recommend getting a gtx 1070 and playing in 1440p.

congrats on not falling for the 4k meme now kindly kys for being this late
>>
I'm going to get a 1440p display and run it with my 1050 Ti. 30fps and high should be possible.
>>
will 4k ever be "the new 1080p"?
>>
I play games in 1600x1200 and I think my games look great
>>
>>380809771
yeah it's horrible
but you cant deny it looks really good

well you can deny but it would be a weak attempt

Welcome to 4chan, it seems like this is your first day. Let me remind you to go back to >>>/reddit/
>>
is 1440p worth it on a 480? I don't feel like upgrading my card this early
>>
>>380809997
eventually, in 4 years maybe.

I remember when 1080p was the gold standard 6 years ago.

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
>>
>>380809997
Eventually but its taking way longer than I thought it would to catch on. 4k TVs
are cheap as fuck now and streaming companies are doing 4k now so I dont
get why more people aren't making the jump
>>
>>380810136
You're talking about Fermi or RX?

Fermi could barely handle 1080p without melting but the RX should be fine with the typical amd graphic setting adjustments

>the fucking leap in display size between 1080p and 4k
i want the future to be now
>>
>>380810405
My issue with 4k is display scaling. I really prefer my screen to be around the 21~24" inch space.

Windows scaling is better now but some applications still have issues with it.
>>
>>380810405
People are only really upgrading to 1080 TVs. And 4K TVs are still expensive for quality. I would love to get a 4K monitor that matches my Predator specs without having to sacrifice my organs.
>>
>>380810405
Because sports don't normally come in 4k.
>>
>>380810405
The jump from 1080p to 4K is absurd.

1.8M pixels on screen per frame versus 8.2M pixels
The required bandwidth for that type of signal is forcing the HDMI standard forward.
4K TVs are more difficult to make because a far greater number of pixels, and the risk for error grows as the pixel count (and panel size) grows.
On the GPU front, they're not powerful enough to run shit like Anthem at 60fps yet. Nvidia and AMD are dragging their feet with GPU advances.
>>
>>380810368
nah, in 4 years 1440p will be the new 1080p
>>
>>380810704
what this anon said also, till TV broadcasters start doing OTA in 4k and Cable/Sat companies get their boxes/compression algorithms set I don't expect the average person to have one yet
>>
>>380810818
No, it won't. Go look for 1440p displays and then look for 4k displays. The former are far fewer and not much cheaper due to a lack of demand.
1440p is to 4k what 900p was for 1080p.
>>
>>380810973
kinda strange how we're jumping straight to 4k from 1080p. I guess "1440p" just doesn't have as much of a marketing ring to it as "4k"
>>
>>380810964
Yup, just like with HD's initial wave it was sports broadcasts that really made more people jump on the wagon.

Fun Fact: Most sports is still authored in 720p because fucking cable companies don't want to upgrade infrastructure to increase the bandwidth needed for higher quality 1080p or 4K broadcasts.
>>
>>380809530
What is it about the graphical style of Assassin's Creed? I'm not just shitposting I loved the first two and Black Flag was a lot of fun, but everything just looks kind of plastic or something, like you can see them having tried to go for realistic and failing. It was really bad in the E3 Origins preview.
>>
>>380810973
Pretty much this, yeah. 1440p will never catch on as something truly mass market because it's only used by high-end PC gamers or people who need it for work. It's not something mainstream which is pushed across all fronts like broadcast TV, actual TV sets, video streaming, consoles and UHD BR. That's either the old 1080p or 4K, 1440p is going to have its niche until it goes extinct by being superseded by something truly better.
>>
>>380811157
there's also the FCC you will have to contend with. I don't think the current ATSC spec can do 4k in either progressive or interlaced.
>>
>90k trying to do RDM quest

oh
>>
>>380811150
If they wanted to market it they'd call it QHD, it's not about marketing in that regard, it's about content production in 4k.

>>380811404
It must be the engine.
>>
>>380811157
Pretty much this. The adoption of 4k is slow becuase the infrastructure that would make it viable for cable companies doesn't really exist. At least in the US it's almost all coaxial and even still some phone lines in certain areas, they won't yet invest in running fiber optic lines for the most part. 4k won't be mainstream until normies can get their ESPN packages in it.

>Have 1080p monitor

Does anyone know why?

does anyone know why you are this stupid?
>>
>>380812612
But it doesn't do that when i go lower in resolution, it would look pretty much the same.

more like netflix maybe

no one watched espn anymore
