I honestly like the first game the most. Spyro 3 was cool when I was a kid because of all the extra stuff, but now I just want to platform around, and I feel that the first game has the best designed maps by far. Spyro 2 I think had the weakest ones so I don't like it that much. Everyone else seems to think it's the best one though. Then again I never played Spyro 2 as a kid so I don't have the same kind of connection to it as 1 and 3. I only played it like two years ago

I played the games in reverse order. 3 and then 2, but never 1. And I did it for Crash as well. I'm excited to finally play Crash 1 on the remake, and I think that maybe a Spyro remake is down the line for the next few years, so I'd love to play it then.

most of the level designs in 1 (espically the first half of the game, I just played through the game this week) are not bad but much more simple compared to 2 and 3

You should play Spyro 1. My viewpoint is probably skewed but it has the most magical feel for me. There are no silly animal mascot NPCs and minigames, it's just you and the wide open levels. There's a certain melancholy to it, or I don't know what the right word is. The level design is also pretty clever sometimes. The movement feels a bit different though and Spyro can't do that little hover after gliding

Looking back, it's actually really impressive how far you can see in these games. Never thought about it back then. But this was just as they were still figuring out that 3D thing on PS1, and Spyro managed to have these big levels which you could view in their entirety. Still looks so good too

Maybe I need to play Spyro 2 again, I just felt like there wasn't much platforming, it was more just doing the minigames for the guys. It got better again in Spyro 3 but I don't really like all that minigame stuff that much nowadays. The variety was great back then though

A lot of games were using some kind of fog to hide the poor draw distance, and Crash Bandicoot had really narrow levels with carefully managed sightlines so the console could handle it. This was quite the contrast

Maybe you're the same anon or another one but I've often been told about that aspect of Spyro 1. How you feel alone and by yourself. That kinda draws me away from it. Makes it feel creepy in a way. One thing I loved about 2 and 3 was the character humor. But I'll definitely play it in 2019 when the remake comes out. Hopefully.

Could they actually pull it off? I already don't really like everything they did with the Crash remakes and I would say Spyro has more of a defined atmosphere. It would be hard to recreate. Just makes me think of these weird UE recreations with a ton of shaders and shit skewing the vibe

I feel like they just really wanted to show off how vast and 3D the levels are in the first game. After all it was the very beginning of this 3D stuff so Spyro was very impressive from a technical perspective. Then with the sequels it wasn't as much of a priority anymore so it took a backseat. Man I remember running around in that level on some demo disc, those grassy hills were so cool, you could see forever
