Actually from what I saw when they popped the map open zones are still divided up into chunks and may very well have some kind of boundary system as a result. There aren't loading screens or transitions obviously but it would be weird for a monster to aggro you even if you were already fighting it and left the "zone".

Those areas look like they have a lot of winding paths, so the bugs can lead you to the monster (after having tracked it) without too much difficulty.
