ITT, Games that didn't do anything new/groundbreaking but you enjoyed anyway.

at the time the way they handled the usage of ai teammates was cool, simple and effective commands and plus the underground hubs were cool, overall the game had really amazing atmosphere, reslly made you feel the hopelessness of it all

Pretty much most middleware of the ps2 generation.

The non-existence of middleware is why the videogame industry feels so empty.

I was going through a list of must play PS2 games the other day and felt the same way. Lots of variety and niche titles.

I absolutely loved this game, setting up little ambushes and hold outs all over the maps and shit. The Friendly NPC movement order could be clunky at times but damn it was fun. Wish there was a PC port of this, I would play the shit out of it.

AvP: Extinction was another meh game that I really enjoyed playing back in the day

Yep. And Ubisoft and EA warned us this was going to happen and it's why we shouldn't have been whinging about graphics and under-powered consoles.

Graphics demands drives up development costs, higher development costs mean more sales are needed, more sales are needed means you can't make too many games because you'll undercut yourself and you have to design your game to have as broad an appeal as possible.

Pretty much this. I remembered playing it on PS2 but didn't finished it. Just yesterday I emulate it on Dolphin and it's good.

It's pretty much a solid and polished third person shooter from that era. It controls almost like The Godfather which is almost a perfect third person shooter control scheme for a console. Seriously, it controls very good for me, because it's responsive and tight. Much like EA's games from 2006, it looks amazingly good. It has many levels with bonus levels, you don't get that in modern game. My biggest criticisms are: they decided to adapting the least actiony Bond film into a amazingly action pack game, which is jarring, and the lack of free aim which can make things frustrating.

But overall, a decent package. Very underrated for sure.
