He went through absolute hell via yakuza torture and his newly found relationship with makoto being strained by the very same people made him go off the deep end. He is a very very broken man.

That's what I was thinking. But it was weird to see him next scene after the fight just become insane. I guess it makes more sense for people who have played all of the other games, but I didn't so I felt the transition was really weird.

Also is it wrothwhile playing the older PS2 ones? I'll be emulating if I do because a physical copy is expensive as fuck. That's how I usually play older games.

Sooo, random question:

I am playing through the Yakuza series right now and finished up 1 and 2 and currently working on 3. Only game I don't own that is out in English is Dead Souls (might pick up on the cheap to try out later) and Yakuza 5.

I want to wait until there is a sale to pick up Yakuza 5 digitally. I know 0 is a prequel but has references to other games in the franchise. My question is this: Will it be OK to play Yakuza 0 right after finishing 3 or should I just wait to play it after 5?

Well, Kiwami is coming out and Sega has hinted towards a "Kiwami 2" which means that possibly the first and second games are coming to ps4.... And maybe PC if their talks were serious.

Play the ps2 games just to appreciate the beginnings, but don't feel obligated to complete one when there's a remaking coming that makes it better.

Majima is pretty reasonable/redeemable when he wants to be in 3 and 4. Hell, even Dead Souls where he's pretty unchained and not caring about anything but killing zombies he helps the people in Kamurocho Hills because a little girl thanked him, helps out Kine despite Kine having nothing to give him and a flimsy reason, and helps out the zombie movie guys at no charge. With both Saejima and Daigo he knows how to be completely composed and reasonable, and even with Kiryu in all of the games he switches from serious to nuts when he feels like it.

Majima really doesn't seem that crazy, it's more like he just gets sick of excuses or sick of people not driving at things head first and letting fear restrict them.

5 to me was absolute ass. Holy shit i did not have fun. Felt as tedious as 3 to me. Still a nice game but wouldbt recommend at all to noobs to get the yakiza experience. I wanted to jump into 0 right after finishing 5 but i was so ucking let down i moved to ffxv.

I went in the same order, play ffxv then 0. I personally really liked the world and the silly dialogue. But there are a lot of eh parts in ffxv. Still a fun and enjoyable game.
