The console was barely alive around the time Smash 4 was released. The dual release for the 3DS and the Wii U did nothing to help it - especially since the 3DS version came first.

Speaking as someone who owns a 3DS and Smash for it, I saw absolutely NO reason to get the Wii U and Smash. The library was trash even up to that point in its life, so just getting the U just for a singular game I already own just wasn't selling me.

Mario Kart had some cosmetic Mii costumes that nobody fucking cares about, and its DLC was developed after the game had released. Smash's amiibo feature was something that wouldn't work without amiibo, the concept was that you train a toy and have it battle other peoples toys. Its DLC was developed after the game released.

I want to bet Smash 5 will recycle a lot of Smash 4's content into a new set of modes with different menus. There'll be some additions like characters and stages, but like 70% of the game is probably going to be carried directly over for the sake of sheer content quantity. Of course when I say this, I mean from BOTH versions of Smash 4, so they could cover a lot of fucking ground that way.

I mean by this point, what else could they really stand to gain by completely starting over? The overall aesthetic is about as good as it ever needs to be, the stages really shouldn't be getting any fucking bigger or crazier than they are already, and you'd face the issue of potentially lacking a lot of stages or characters people really want.

I don't even care about Smash anymore. Everyone just wants to talk about the roster and it's so fucking huge now that it barely matters to me. Who gives a fuck if you can punch Pac-Man and Bayonetta? Oh sure, I'd love Wonder Red but what would he change about the experience at this point? It's not like any of them actually interact with each other. I will admit that a lot of my lack of enjoyment comes from my specific social circle. The game has the most simplistic inputs yet only one of my friends bothers to wrap his head around them. They prefer for me to bring out Mario Kart, and honestly I do, too.

I like turning on items for a little bit, but they get old kind of fast, particularly in Smash 4. They're good for a few laughs but people quickly get frustrated with them unless I constantly switch up what items are available, even that's no guarantee. The wacky stages on the other hand are universally garbage and no one I play with ever wants to fuck with them.

Also, call me Meleefag all you want, but the game was better when it was fucking fast and I never once touched the competitive scene.

I personally think it IS too soon for a "Smash 5" solely because what the fuck would be a "Smash 5"? Would it REALLY be a "NEW" Smash Bros? tl;dr: I want a Smash 5 over a port, but I want a port of 4 so we can get Smash 4 as a WHOLE. The 3DS version of ANY form of Smash was the biggest mistake Sack of Rice has ever made and all I could ever ask is Smash 4 gets redemed as a whole game. It's still a VERY lack luster game, but if it had all of the content made for "Smash 4" then it would had been a bit better, more "completed". Then afterwards, comes a new game made from the GROUND UP, all characters scrapped and revisioned with new, modernized movesets and gameplay mechanics that complements all the other characters. That way we can get a fresh new start with the Smash series and that it would ultimately make for a more cohesive playerbase.

Also to get rid of all the forced in Kid Icarus shit and to bring back actual Classic Mode for fuck sake.
