There's nothing in the beginning that is all that exciting or really entices you except for maybe the dragon or griffin or whatever that fight was in the beginning (so unimportant and unimpressive that I forgot what it was), but even then the fight is extremely easy. There's just no hook. If you don't enjoy it in the beginning, you most likely will not enjoy the full game.

The atmosphere, designs and narrative elements are some of the best ever in a game, but if you prefer pure gameplay games maybe it's not for you. I like FPSs even today (though I'm more of a BF guy than COD guy), but as far as "A"RPGs go Demon's Souls completely raised the bar and basically every game not Souls or Bloodborne has fallen way short.

TW3's combat is really quite awful. It's basically Two Worlds', right down to the over-animated flourishes, except TW has a better magic system. That's just... sad.

The main storyline carries more weight if you play the last two games first but it sure is average in all. I agree with your points, but the sidequests are where the writing shines to me. I played a lot of them between progressing the story so it didn't drag the game down too much. I was laughing and making stupid decisions during some of the conversations which made it feel more immersive than most games I've played, but if you're an RPG buff then I can see why it wouldn't have any appeal.

For me it was an amazing experience. Everything about it was fun for me. Sure it got repetitive with fighting through bandit camps but I felt like a badass mowing through them as Geralt of Rivia.
