Why does /v/ get so mad when you mention that this game will be the next Pokemon?

How though?
What are you collecting in Splatoon?
It's huge in japan. Pokemon level there.
Not sure WW yet but no one had a switch to experience it.
My 2nd favourite franchise after Pokemon. I hope it becomes as big.

He's trying to say that nobody in /v/ likes Pokemon.
bumpin' for OP's thoughts.
I really enjoyed the first and 2's the reason I'm considering getting a switch

we do? news to me
When I see a Splatoon movie, Splatoon card game and Splatoon macaroni noodles I might believe it.
Golden age of lolis inbound lads. Hopefully devs will put in tons of lolis to try to capture the magic.

>Splatoon is the next Pokemon
Explain further.

It will be as popular as Pokemon.
Nah, it won't be the next Pokemon. Especially with a core Pokemon game on the way for the Switch.
It will be the next Smash, however. Especially since Melee's tourney scene is starting to die off because nobody likes them anymore.
Splatoon 2 will probably be one of Nintendo's crown jewels for both casual and competitive play alike.
Nah, unlike last time Splatoon is actually being gated by paid online now. Kids and such won't have access to online, which will slow the popularity of it.

Considering paid online won't be hitting until next year, and most of a game's playerbase will come from its launch period, that's plenty enough time for kids to trap their parents into spending $20/year to play Splatoon 2.
And that's the other ace up Nintendo's sleeve. Even if the service is terrible $20/year is basically peanuts to your average adult with a job. That's giving up like 4 visits to McDonalds a year. Not a bad trade off to keep having online multiplayer.
